Summary of reviews

This KVM switch offers a solid solution for connecting multiple devices to a single monitor, with features like auto-switching and support for high resolutions. However, guests have noted some quirks, such as unintended input switching when the mouse is near screen edges and occasional recognition issues with wireless peripherals. Despite these challenges, it generally performs well for its intended purpose, making it a practical choice for users with multiple computers.

DON'T BUY THIS SWITCH IF YOU'RE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

I'm visually impaired and I need the zoom function (Windows, +) to use my computer. Once zoomed in, Whenever I moved the mouse toward one of the top corners of the screen, the input would change to my other computer. I learned that this is one of several "smart" ways to switch inputs and there is no way to turn it off. My only recourse was to plug my mouse into one of the front USB 3.0 slots. Now I have a loss of functionality because my keyboard with enhanced features already required the other USB 3.0 slot in the front. I'm very frustrated.

This was pretty much what I needed to do a monitor, keyboard and mouse share. Interestingly, when I use my LG television remote power on/off, it causes this switch to change inputs :)

For the most part, this KVM works well enough. I find that sometimes it fails to recognize my wireless Logitech keyboard and the mouse gets a bit wonky with some applications, but this usually only happens on one machine, so it might be a driver issue. One other machine does not always recognize the monitor, but if I reboot the KVM, that seems to clear it up. Overall it serves it's purpose, but it can get a bit flakey at times.

It works fine switching video, keyboard and audio which is why I bought it. If you accidentally move the mouse to the right it will switch computers. Monoprice calls this a feature and there is no software switch to disable the feature. Happens most when you back up a web page then it switches because you moved the mouse to the right of the screen.

    Audio inputs switched

I purchased the 2 input switch. Everything works but PC2 audio plays when PC 1 is selected and visa versa. Not a deal breaker. Easily remedied by swapping the audio input cables but worth noting.

This switch does not support the modes that are advertised...or really any video modes. There is constant tearing and re-syncing on the video. I have tried multiple PCs running different Operating Systems all which work directly to the TV do not work through this switch. I tried buying Monoprice 4k certified HDMI cables and it still doesn't work. If you are a fan of your screen constantly flickering on and off, this is the product for you. Otherwise...hard pass.

    Good Switch with some issues

So I'm using this 2x1 4K switch to switch between an ASUS Z87-Plus mother board (Intel i7-4770K) and a Mac Studio M1 Ultra. Works well - but a few issues: - My LG OLEDxxC1 remote off button was triggering a switch. I covered the remote sensor and remote sensor jack with electrical tape - FIXED. - Switching to my Mac Studio, infrequently doesn't sync up and I get static. Need to switch over and back. OK workaround - So here's my big issue that I haven't fixed: There is no way to disable the switch that occurs due to moving your mouse up and down on the right side of the screen. SADLY, most windows at full screen size have a slider on the right side - and using the slider (sometimes even not all the way on the right side) triggers a switch. I'm having to keep my windows off the right side on both systems. I could put my wireless keyboard/mouse dongle in a front port and this suppresses this mouse based switch, but that also suppresses using the keyboard to trigger a switch - which is the only way I switch - so I'm stuck. It is unfortunate they did not provide a key stroke control to suppress this function. Maybe next generation.

Works well with Samsung Odyssey G9 5120x1440@240hz

This works well with a Samsung 49-inch Odyssey G9, and supports the max resolution 5120x1440@240hz Tested with: Windows Desktop (GTX970) Windows Laptop (Integrated Intel) System 76 (PopOS / Linux) Macbook M1 Here are some tips: - My computers didn't detect the display's refresh rate at 240hz, just 120 or lower, so set you desired resolution on your machine and then go into the Samsung Monitor settings and change refresh rate to 240hz - If you don't use 240hz, you will get a flickering on the video output on lower hz - Use DisplayPort cables - Use the front two USB ports to avoid the weird mouse switching issue - The beeping is loud - The lights are kinda bright, put some masking tape over it to make it less bright - I bought USB-C to DisplayPort for the laptops, since that provides the best option for video quality - I bought USB-C to USB-B (most newer laptops dont have USB-C), that's been working out fine

    Good with some problems

Several problems prevent this product from being excellent. With my keyboard and mouse plugged into the Blackbird, I cannot access the BIOS setup on the connected computer. I don't really know why. Perhaps the unit does not switch on fast enough when the computer is turned on. The mouse and keyboard have to be unplugged from the Blackbird and plugged into the computer directly, then the computer will respond to the 'Delete' key being pressed to enter the setup menu. The automatic switching of inputs doesn't work for me. When a computer is booted up the input of the Blackbird doesn't change. This isn't too big of a problem since the front panel buttons can easily be reached in my setup. The green indicators show that the computers are on when they are not hence they don't serve any real purpose. I suppose that this really indicates the the USB is still energized when the computer is off, but I expect that most desktop computers are like this. When the mouse is moved to the right side of the screen, as it is when going over to my second monitor, the Blackbird sometimes changes unexpectedly to another computer which may actually be off. I wish this feature could be turned off. The Blackbird doesn't seem to like my cordless Logitech mouse. It would have to be rebooted often when changing inputs. The mouse would freeze or disappear entirely. I have had to switch to a corded USB mouse which works reliably. All in all, this is a pretty good unit for the price and I am glad that I purchased it.

The switch buttoms on teh front are very handy. The size is acceptable. The ONLY issue Ive had is using a logitech dongle and it switching correctly every time. I switch at least 5-8 times a day. At least one of those switch times, I either have to turn the mouse off\on, or switch the PC's a few times through the button. It does work most of the time but it can be annoyiong at times. I have tried all the usb ports and keyboard\mouse ports. That being said I will keep this switch. The display and keyborad so far, have switched every time.

I bought a Smart AVI UHDN-4P about 2 years ago for $400+ and it stopped working. The audio jacks never worked, and when connected to a Mac, I had to unplug/plug the HDMI cable to make it work. I decided to try Blackbird model 42644 from Monoprice, recommended by a co-worker. Pros for the Blackbird: - It's only $120. A lot less than the $400+ SmartAVI that didn't work. - It switches between 2 of my Mac Book Pros, and my Dell laptop with CentOS (linux). - It's very small, so it takes up a lot less space than the Smart AVI. - Comes with a remote and IR sensor. Not sure what it's for, since I'm about 5" from the KVM. Maybe for presentations? - The audio jack switches just fine. - I have an external USB camera connected to it and it switches just fine too. - It switches when you drag and hold the mouse off the left or right of the screen. This is a pro and con. It's a pro, because my hand is on the mouse all the time, and I can switch computers without having to remove my hand off the mouse. And it doesn't beep if you switch computers this way. Cons: - The beep is very loud, but there's supposed to be a way to shut it off. It would be nice if the beep wasn't so loud. - The USB cables the come with the KVM are very short - about 3'. I like to route the cables neatly around my desk. Having 3' to work with, forced me to cross over directly to my third computer. This can be resolved via extension cable, but would be nice if the cables were 4' or longer. - I have 3 laptops with 15" screens and a shared 42" 4K monitor, so when the computer is switched to the shared monitor, the resolution automatically switches to the higher resolution, and the computers not connected are switched to the lower resolution. If the computer does not change resolutions, the shared monitor does not show anything. So, sometimes, I have to close the laptop and re-open it. Might be a problem with the laptop and not the KVM. - Because the KVM switches when you move the mouse off the left or right of the screen, you can inadvertently switch computers.

Works great with my setup: 4 devices - Win 10 PC desktop, Win 11 PC laptop, MacBook Pro, Linux laptop. I had to shop around for the DP and audio cables, and some USB 3.0 extenders (the OOB were a bit short for what I needed), connecting via DP port to 3 monitor linked via DP Daisy chain (2 ThinkVision @ 2560x1440 + 1 ViewSonic @ 1920x1080) - if the device's video card supports it. The one minor issue, reported by others as well is the mouse traverse "feature", which in the daisy chain multi-monitor configuration I have is a big hassle as it won't allow the mouse to traverse the monitors. So, I had to get used to the idea that I'm losing a USB port (repurposed for the mouse). If this could be "fixed" via a firmware update, I'll give 5 stars without hesitation.

Does the job, but has annoying "features"

This KVM does a good job of connecting multiple devices that use DisplayPort to a single DisplayPort or HDMI monitor. The mouse or keyboard can be plugged into the front USB ports if you want to avoid the "hot" functions. There are two behaviors that really ruin this KVM... The first is that the CONTROL key also acts as a hot switch key. This interferes when using CTRL-Click to select files. This can't be disabled. The second is that when you turn a device on or off, the KVM will switch inputs. This would be OK if there was a way to disable this auto switching.

great KVM with some dumb features

pros: This device feels solid with nice tight connections, works as advertised. Isn't flaky like a lot of KVMs. cons: 1. you are paying for an optional IR switch that you arent going to use. the device is usually two feet from your keyboard sitting on your desk. Why do you need a remote control for something two feet away? Lower the price the drop the IR switch. 2. "Mouse Traverse" is an anti-feature. The KVM has this feature where if you move the mouse off the right side of the screen and leave it there for a few seconds it switches computers. This mostly happens by accident. It is really bad if you don't know about the feature.

Some quirks. Most notably, support couldn't figure out my question/request for how to disable mouse-based switching as it interfered with my laptop screen + monitor use case. Occasionally, switching displays results in the monitor being out-of-sync; switching again usually fixes. Can't get the hotkey sequence to work with an Apple keyboard. So all of that aside, it is solid.

Supports switching to PCs that have gone to sleep

    4 out of 5 stars

I was excited to see a Displayport 1.4 KVM switch with USB 3.0 for under $100 that is supported by a company in the US. I wanted a switch that supports 144Hz and Gsync. I'm happy to report this one does that. This being said, I really picked this switch because Monoprice told me it would support the ability for PCs to wake up when I switch back to them after they've gone to sleep. Switches at this price point generally do not do this. When the switch arrived, I confirmed that it does somehow manage to pull this off - PC wakes up, as they said it would. (There is no mention of this feature in the product literature.) All was great until... I started playing games. The mouse was not functional (limited range of motion) and the KVM switch would switch to the other PC on it's own. When I contacted Monoprice, they suggested getting a replacement. The replacement did the same thing. I continued troubleshooting on my own and determined the mouse port on the switch (there are dedicated keyboard and mouse ports to provide some pretty cool switching functions) is flaky. In fact, my mouse software would not recognize the mouse, if plugged into that port. However, if I plug the mouse into one of the standard USB 3.0 ports, all is well, except for the fact that the switching features triggered by the mouse are not available and I have a wasted a USB port (the dedicated mouse port does not function as a standard USB port). Hence, the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. All-in-all, I'm really happy with the switch so far, predominantly because it supports waking the PCs. However, the keyboard commands to switch PCs (i.e. no need to use IR remote) are a big plus.
