About this item
Highlights
- Semi-Hollow Sound Chambers: The solid maple block center, increases sustain and reduces susceptibility to feedback in high volume situations, while maintaining big, warm acoustic overtones.
- Versatile: mellow tone, makes it well-suited to playing jazz, blues, or rock.
- Semi-Acoustic: The semi-hollowbody construction resonates like an acoustic guitar, but much quieter, making it great for late night practicing.
- Classic Styling: Enjoy the classic styling, originating from the need to get the guitar volume above the big brass bands of the 30s and 40s. Full hollow bodied guitars have a tendency to generate feedback, so the semi-hollow guitar gives players the best of both worlds.
- Included Gig Bag: All Indio Boardwalk Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitars ship with a protective Gig Bag to defend your axe against dings and scratches as you travel.
Description
Semi-hollowbody guitars are lighter and more resonant than their solid body cousins. This gives a mellow tone, making it well-suited to playing jazz, blues, or rock. Indio Boardwalk guitars feature a double cutaway and include a solid maple block center, increasing sustain and reducing susceptibility to feedback in high volume situations. Enjoy the classic styling, originating from the need to get the guitar volume above the big brass bands of the 30s and 40s. Full hollow bodied guitars have a tendency to generate feedback, so the semi-hollow guitar gives players the best of both worlds. Before we ship your new guitar, it is setup by hand in Southern California by our own Master Luthier. Setups include having the frets filed so they are free of sharp edges, ensuring that the nut and bridge are properly seated at the correct height, that the strings have the right amount of action with no buzzing, and that the electronics are functioning properly, so you can plug in and play right out of the box! Take center stage and rock out on a Friday night or worship on Sunday morning.

This guitar is not as good as all the You Video claim mine needed a lot of work. The pick ups suck the fret ends will cut your fingers off and the neck will need to be adjusted and if you are not able to set it up yourself you will have to pay someone.
Great value guitar.

This is my second Indio guitar. Hard to beat the value, especially when there is a big sale or coupon savings. Sounds much better amped than not. Certainly not as good as my PRS and a little heavier than I like, but very playable.
Delighted with my red Boardwalk guitar

In this price range, I thought I could count on some concerns/problems with the instrument. I was wrong. Guitar looks and sounds nice. It was shipped promptly and arrived quicker than expected. It was set up with good intonation with string height pretty much on the money. Nice job Monoprice Luthier!

Very happy with this guitar. It is absolutely beautiful for a start. There are things and sounds that you can make with a hollow, or in this case semi that can't be done on a solid body. The action is nice and low and it's extremely playable. On the downside there is either something wrong with one of the pots/capacitors, or it's wired incorrectly. I have several other duel HB guitars with this arrangement, so I know. Bottom line I can get the sounds I wan't (these knobs wired strangely LOL) so NBD, don't use on stage, etc. I like it so much otherwise, I kept it. The nut appears to be plastic, and the tuners seem cheap but work. I will still give it a 4 despite wiring problems.
Disappointed hope you have better luck

Everything is perfect! Unbelievable value for a budget priced guitar. Feels solid, looks better than the pics, and neck feels good. I don't feel there is any necessity to change anything except will put on some Elixers soon.

Pickups routs were uneven. The bridge pickup route was a full centimeter off center to the left. I bought this as a project guitar and almost returned it but decided to keep it just to mess around with. If I had bought this as a functional instrument I would have returned it. The uneven routing is inexcusable in the day of CNC. Overall it?s a piece of junk as delivered. I will never buy anything from Monoprice ever again.

This is a great instrument for anyone looking a 335 style. Action and intonation are good, no sprouting or sharp frets, pots were a little scratchy but worked themselves out with a few twists. There?s a fret buzz on the low E, but just needs an adjustment. Binding and f holes are neat and clean. I prefer that it does not have a pickguard and that the jack is on the edge of the guitar and not on the top.
Very nice guitar

Very solidly built. Unlike a previous Boardwalk I got thru Amazon this one has no cosmetic flaws or sharp frets. Frets only needed polishing. Body is beautiful. The neck is slightly fatter than I prefer but it is still comfortable to play. I highly recommend the Boardwalk.

It?s going to be a great Christmas! It?s a great Guitar. Had some fret sprout due to the weather changes recently. But a little work and it was fine. It?s going next to the Tree this year. The twinkly lights should be a good backdrop as we all sing Carols! Indeed .. A Happy Christmas :) !!! What a great Guitar ! Thank you Robert
Good value for the price!

I can't believe I got something this nice for the price. It did need a bit of tweaking, but I do that for every guitar, OOTB. Waited patiently for the sunburst and glad I did.!
Bought out of curiosity. Totally surprised!

I was expecting this to be a project guitar where I would replace the Tuners, Pickups, Nut, and maybe the Bridge. And I figured it would need a total setup. Nope. Everything was perfect. Setup and components. It plays and sounds so sweet. I am amazed that it could be this good at this price point! Looking hard at Indio guitars now.
Great value, great sound.

Great value for the cost. The low output pickups sound great and the fit and finish is what you'd expect at this price point. I did have to do some fret filing and polishing to get it where I prefer, but it was absolutely playable out of the box. I do wish the cool paint theme that is in the pictures of the one I bought was what shipped, but there were plenty of warnings in the reviews.

Like others have mentioned, sides, neck and back are not flame -just plain black. Binding isn?t laminated- single layer ivory but looks good. Some cleanup around f-holes is about all it needed that can easily be done. Tuners are definitely the Achilles heel action wise but it plays well, reasonably well set up, decent strings and nicely finished and well worth the sale price. Pots are smooth and pretty linear, switch is an econo grade and is pretty clicky - that and the tuners will be changed at some point. Good player, nice looking - what?s not to like?
Amazing quality for the price. Love it!

So far, for a beginner like me, this far exceeds every expectation I had. Sounds so much better than my other electric right out of the box. Favorite guitar to play right now.
Two things I hate about this guitar, and two I love.

I have TWO really bad gripes on this guitar: 1) needing to buy new tuners, the ones it came with don't work on any professional level - and i can order a nice set of locking tuners on Ebay from China for $19 free shipping, why couldn't you just make the guitar with those better tuners?? You were already in China! and 2) the bridge (based on a Tune-o-Matic style) must be replaced, it is nearly impossible to get your fingers to those way-too-small height adjuster screws. Big pain in the butt. But it still gets 3 stars for decent pickup sound and good feeling short-scale fingerboard.
Very disappointed

Great YouTube reviews, but beware. The guitar I received was unplayable without considerable set-up costs.
Nut was not properly cut

My low E string was cut so snug that after tuning it for a couple of months it cut itself a deep enough groove that I have to replace the nut because I can't adjust away the string buzz. Action was always a little high, but I had to adjust it into the stratosphere to keep it from buzzing. I adjusted the rod to it's maximum range (which it was very close to from the start, indicating they over filed the nut and made up for it by adjusting the rod to it's max range) and still have to have the action 3mm+ at the 12th fret. Very poor work on the part of the luthier who set this up, who seems to have over sanded the nut and then adjusted the guitar to make up for their mistake.
