Description
The Indio California Classic has proved itself to be a stage ready performer at a price that is border line ridiculous, so in true California fashion, we gave it some muscle! The Monoprice Indio Cali Classic HSS Electric Guitar builds on the foundation of the original Cali Classic, with a hot-rodded humbucking pickup in the bridge position (the most rock-n-roll position to play). Take your tone back to the glory days of 80's heavy metal. When you want to turn your amp up to 11, the standard single-coil pickups typically found on this style of guitar can create a buzzing sound. This is true of our Cali Classic as well as big brand-name guitars costing thousands of dollars. The humbucking pickup in the bridge position features reverse polarity on the dual-coil pickup, which naturally removes unwanted noises and lets nothing but the heavy, crunchy rockitude out!

Disregard reviews of sharp or sprouted frets. This one was extremely both. The guitars are packed to stay dry. When the neck expands to humidity the frets are absolute perfection.

Really nice for the money! the color is not at all like the photo and I will say the frets need to be finished for it to be fully playable but over all a great deal!
One of the best for the price.

Bought the black one to mod when it was on sale. I tore into it and started the mod without checking it over for anything other than blatant shipping damage and cosmetic issues. Stupid mistake on my part. Been having two issues . 1) Breaking high E strings at the tuner. It had a burr on one side of where the string passes through the tuner . Nothing a little wet dry sandpaper couldn't easily fix. 2) Constant buzzing of low E string even after leveling the frets and changing out the nut (Low E string sat very low in the nut.). Finally pulled the neck off which made it easier for me to sight down the neck and it's twisted pretty good. Moral of the story - Be sure to check out the entire guitar BEFORE starting ANY mod work.
Not ready out of the box, but great sound after initial set up.

Color was lighter than the picture, required some minor set up, as the action was pretty high. Pick-ups required lowering to accommodate lower action. All tools that were needed were provided. Back humbucker is HOT! Very good sound. Neck finish on backwas a little rougher than I like, easily fixed with some 220 grit. Nice fit and finish. I would not recommend this as a first guitar, but as a first guitar to learn and play around with set ups and mods? absolutely.
Neck just not right

The overall quality of this guitar seems to be ok, but as you can see from the photo, the neck just doesn't fit right. I have this guitar and the Cali classis sss and they have the same issue. I know this is an inexpensive guitar, but the neck on my son's toy guitar fits better. I hope monoprice is listening to this review.

I love my 'Blue Fade' Cali Classic so much, I decided I wanted a black one to match my Indio J Bass. When I saw that there was a HSS one, I was all over it. Great guitar! Lowered the action a bit, checked intonation, which is good, tuned and played. Awesome guitar, and beautiful. Such a bargain with the VERY nice included gig bag. Just can't beat it! Very happy camper! Monoprice has become 'my brand'. I own two of the Strats, two of the Paul's, the Tele, and the J Bass. love 'em all!

It looks amazing in real life. I finally got it. I had to wait for a friend to bring it and she was delayed, so I haven?t tried it yet, but it looks amazing. I have to set it up as the string lengths and action are all weird, for me. I like low action and the bridge settings have to be adjusted.
excellent for price cant beat it

Write your regreat guitar for price plays good and does have a beefy tone to the pickups just like it reads on the listings switched out the tuners though everything else was fantastic on this guitar it came pretty well setup the high e string was kind of high on the setup but i think it has to be that way for this kind of guitar to play and sound great still excellent for price cant beat it in my opinion view here. It must be at least 10 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislike about it.

I like this guitar. You can use it as it was build but I replaced strings and tuners. I am using it at home for practice and some home recording as my hobby.

I've been playing professionally for about 40 years, and have some very expensive guitars, and some very cheap ones. Couldn't find one much less expensive than this one (paid 90.00). That said, although the frets are not very good, they were finished nicely on the ends. The neck itself is really quite nice, in my opinion. Nice size and shape, unfinished maple, with a rosewood (or who knows) fingerboard, but it plays very nicely! To anyone who complains about the action (string height), I've had $4,000.00 guitars that had to be set up somewhat when I bought them, in fact I've never owned I guitar that I didn't set up to my liking anyway. The intonation was actually set up quite well, even with the garbage strings it came with. Again, the first thing I do with ANY guitar I buy is put my favorite strings on it! The only string that needed better intonation was the low E string, and that took about two minutes. Listen, if you want a decent sounding, nice playing guitar for NEXT TO NOTHING, you can't do any better than this one, at least not the one I got. I'm very happy with my purchase . . . except if I had waited four days, I could have gotten one with 3 single coils and a 10 watt practice amp for the same price! Who knew? THANKS MONOPRICE! Just kidding. Great guitar for a beginner, or an experienced player who needs a backup, or something to play in a dive full of drunks!!

The guitar is a solid representation of an earlier Strat sound: that hollow ringing tough quality which one appreciated among the likes of Eric Clapton and his black Strat prominently featured on ?Slowhand?. I am disappointed with humbucking pickup in the bridge location as it has little heft: it sounds like a slightly louder version of the single-coil pickups onboard. I am still screwing my head as to the differences between the various electric guitar lines produced for and seemingly by Monoprice the parent brand: the response from customer support was inadequate in rationalizing the significant price difference among the discrete brands. I was assured the brand I have been asked to review here is as professionally produced as the more expensive lines. I do not doubt that but distinguishing factors would have helped in my decision making process. One more thing: I do not like: The pickups are not firmly loaded into their slots and can be moved about in their seating.
