Monoprice Premium Select 8-inch 200-Watt Subwoofer (Black)

I wanted a small-footprint, powered subwoofer for my flight sim rig to provide LFE from the surround sound, and this is just perfect, it blends nicely with the Yamaha mains, and can easily provide the rumble of the jet engines in the "cockpit" without sounding like an earthquake. I would only caution purchasers if you are trying to fill a huge room, you will end up overdriving the subwoofer acoustically (I don't mean the amplifier, I mean you will make it sound boomy and unrealistic to make an 8" cone fill a large room) but in a small to medium sized space (perfect for a flight sim rig, this thing fills the space with a tight bass that adds that touch of realism). At normal volumes you don't get port chuffing (where the sub port sounds like heavy breathing) It's also small enough to tuck away without a problem. Setup is about as simple as it gets, plug in power, plug in RCA cable from LFE channel, play sound, adjust crossover and volume to sound good. enjoy! I found the volume at about 1/3 and crossover just above 40hz, sounded really nice and added a subtle rumble to sound (played the ride of the valkyrie scene from Apocalypse now and the explosions were tight and realistic). If you are looking for the monster Monolith sub the size of a filing cabinet that has the power of a tactical nuke, this is not that, but it's also 10% the price, and 5% the weight!

I have this paired with the the MM-5R desktop speakers and it compliments them very well. It provides that little extra oomph at the low end to let the MM-5Rs handle the rest. More power than you need for most PC tasks and plenty left for when you really want to feel the sound.

This sub has really outperformed itself. I never dreamed it would sound that good. I am very very pleased I would recommend to anyone.

I haven't really taken it for a good, loud run yet, but install was easy. It's hum free (the reason I got rid of my old one) and the perfect size for my living room. Overall, I'm very pleased so far.

For the price, not sure you can beat it. Perfect for smaller spaces. Excellent documentation.

A great little sub for smaller speaker systems. One issue I found was that it?s grill cloth vibrates audibly when pushed hard sounding like distortion. Problem solved by pulling off the grill cloth frame.

I replaced a Klipsch 8? sub with this one, unsure if the difference would be noticeable. Oh Boy, is it noticeable! It?s paired with a set of Klipsch bookshelf speakers and it?s stunning how full-bodied the music is, especially at volume. I have the MP 12? sub in my home theater and it was a similar shock at how much deeper and more clear the lows sounded than my 12? Klipsch sub. Especially the clarity of those low frequency sounds; so impressive. The Klipsch sub had the punch but it was more of a muffled sound that filled the room with a rumble, whereas the MP has even more punch but each low frequency sound was clearly identifiable, separate from the others. This little 8? wonder has the same punch and clarity, just with obvious less window shattering effect than my 12 which brings music and movies so much more alive in my 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos home theater. Can?t wait for Top Gun Maverick UHD Blu Ray disc to arrive here tomorrow!

Great little sub, gets the job done for a very reasonable price. Using it in a 24x16 room and gets plenty loud.

We use this on our TV set-up - we leave it on standby and it comes on every day when the tv is on. Have had it about 4 months and no problems - nice bottom end.

Unfortunately I received the subwoofer and installed it turns out that there was a hum in the The sub and it had to be returned.

Excellent sub for the price point. Small footprint, good amount of output for its size. Looking forward to picking up another down the road!

The sub works well, however it's better in small rooms. I'd consider getting more than one if you plan on using in a larger space.

The subwoofer works exactly as described. I?m using it in a medium sized room where I don?t crank up the volume very often, and it sounds good, with plenty of bass tone, and no boominess, I use it exclusively as a subwoofer for music, not as part of a TV sound system, and I feel it is a good value, with a great performance vs. price ratio.

I perhaps could have given this 5 stars, but is anything perfect? Overall I'm extremely satisfied with this little subwoofer. I had purchased a competitor (10") for slightly more money, but it had a continuous hum from it's amplifier so that was unacceptable. This unit is silent when not in use. It's auto feature works as it should. I do not have to force it to sleep, or to activate when it receives a signal. One thing to note, I use this as a subwoofer for my office connected to my computer along with a pair of with a set of PreSonus Eres E3.5BTs. Consequently, I do not use it at loud volumes. That being said, when the crossover was adjusted it sounds and feels beautiful. I can't speak to how it would sound with booming bass for movies. I didn't buy it for that purpose. It is mostly for music. The sound quality is superior, but it is connected through a Schiit Modius external DAC so it is definitely getting a very clean analog signal. I would highly recommend this for anyone looking for an inexpensive sub for an office setting.

I agree with another reviewer - this sub pairs great with AudioEngine desktop speakers. I'm in a 150 sqft office. This setup is paired with my work desktop computer, and I just use the bass management of my sound card (crossover set to 90Hz). I've been listening for about a week now, and have yet to hear a low note missing that I can hear in headphones. I'd go ahead and call it overkill for a computer speaker setup, but why not have great music when you are at a desk for 8 hours a day? To be nice to my co-workers, I never play any louder than 75 or 80 dB.

Sub is great, adds great sound to our home theater system. I recommend this unit to ALL!
