Q: Does this item have any kind of metal in it? This table would be used next to a security exit by a metal detector

A: Yes the base & post is metal. There is also a mounting plate at the bottom of the table that is metal.

Q: Could the center post on this table be shortened before assembly to make a shorter table?

A: The post on the table is not adjustable.. there's not a way that the post can be cut the ends are made to be able to lock into the mounting plate & base.
