Q: I have an allergic reaction to wheat. Will the wheat protein cause an issue for me?

submitted by 789 - 2 years ago
  • A: It could cause an issue, especially if you have very sensitive skin. Apply a test area and wait 24-48 to see. Wheat proteins in skincare products typically aren't absorbed deeply into the skin.

Works well on my middle-age, oily, acne-prone skin!

I'm 54 and have been battling excess oil and acne since I was in my teens. I've tried nearly every cleanser and facial care product under the sun over the years trying to find a holy grail product to give my clear, oil-free skin. While this product isn't a holy grail, it does come close. I received a free sample of this about a year ago, tried it, liked it, and promptly forgot about it because life is busy. When it came up during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty at half price, I figured I'd give the full-size product a go. I do use DHC cleansing oil to remove makeup before cleansing with the Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash. The texture and color remind me of good old Noxema, (If you know, you know) but with nowhere near the strong scent. It has a faint, slightly spearmint scent that isn't overpowering at all. I do apply it with a facial exfoliating sponge (buff puff, for lack of a better term) because I do use rx retinoid on my skin to help with acne and oil, and I do get the occasional flakiness. The Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash lives up to the name. It only takes a pea sized amount, but it does foam up nicely. I lightly exfoliate while cleansing and the lather is very creamy to the touch and pleasant. It's definitely a mild to the skin cleanser with no stinging or burning. It rinses easily and you're left with no residue and very clean feeling skin, but not so clean that it's been stripped completely of natural oils. I love the way my skin feels after using this and I find that it doesn't break me out at all. This really is perfect for all skin types as it's gentle, non-drying, but cleans well without stripping skin or leaving a greasy residue behind like some "gentle" cleansers tend to do. This is a pretty expensive product, but it should last for a few months of twice a day cleansing if you use a pea-sized amount each time. I recommend waiting until it's on sale again if the price point is an issue because it really is a great product.

    Why the green packaging?

The new dark green packaging scared e a little - but the same product as always is inside! Great face wash!

    I love this Face Wash

I've been using the face wash on and off since the 90's maybe. I love it. I always makes my face squeeky clean with out leaving it dried out. This is one of my Favorite washes and I always go back to it!

Have used for over 15 years!

I have used this cleanser in my routine for over 15 years. It's the 2nd step in my double cleanse. I cannot say enough good things about it. It helped calm and balance my acne in my early 20s and doesn't dry my skin in my early 40s. One of the best!

    Checks and Balances

Honestly… you had a great product that I've been buying for 20 years, but now since you've changed the formula it's not the same. Definitely a different product and not the same Frothy Face Wash… I loved this product now it's just like any other brand… so disappointed with it!!

    You have to try this

You just need to use a little tiny speck. It does the job and it doesn’t try my face.

    My absolute favorite face wash

I am 51 years old and have tried a LOT of different face washes, but none are as good as this one. The scent is light and fresh. The product foams nicely. More than anything though, it leaves my face feeling so clean without making my skin feel stripped or dry. This is a product I buy on repeat!

    Moisturizing cleanser

This is a really good experience as the cream turns to a gentle cleansing foam. Does not leave skin dry or tight. Enjoyable to use with fantastic results.

Dried skin, makes skin feel waxy

Really wanted to love this. This product definitely not what i was expecting. Dried skin out and left my skin feeling dull & waxy. Had to return.

    Left residue

Got this as a sample, and I'm not sure if it went bad or if it just didn't like my skin because it left a layer of residue on my skin that was immediately felt after thoroughly washing if off. I had to follow it up with an exfoliator to make sure all of the residue came off.

    LOVE this product!

I love it's foaming action, and the fact that it takes just a dab in the shower. When I use my Clairins face brush, it rinses clean of my foundation that I wear. I'm always shocked when I try the samples of other facial cleansers and find that my face brush when rinsed after use remains covered in foundation! How can those inferior cleansers even clean your face?!

    CHANGED THE FOMULA

Ive been buying this for over 10 years. since I was 19 now im 32.Best product to keep your skin clear, however since they changed the packaging to the matte green tube, the formula has changed. I know its been advertised that its the same formula but its not. Its more smooth now where before it was a little more grainy which I feel helped create more suds, and also it barely has a smell now. Overall it works 80% as well as before but its not the same product. Not sure why Origins is changing formulas if theres nothing wrong with them.

    25 year customer

I love this gentle, effective soap. I've used it for 25 years, it's wonderful and smells great. Please revise the new green packaging to be less top-heavy. It falls over *constantly*. The clear packaging was more stable and was also better because customers knew when to refill.

    Not for Sensative Skin

It makes my skin red, reactive, gives me a rash. When I check the ingredient list through "Beautytopia" about 40% of the ingredients are listed or as "bad" or "worst". I bought this back in October and stopped using it after the first week. Instead of throwing it away, I thought I would give it a try again to see if I have a different experience. The answer is NO; it's terrible. Anywhere where I shave my face broke out in razor burn rash. If you have sensitive skin, prone to rosacea, prone to skin inflammation -- I would recommend another brand. It smells great, and it does do a great job cleaning. But I'm pretty sure the skin barrier that I have spent good money on protecting with moisturizers was worn down by the harshness of this product.

    Best gentle face wash

This is has been my favorite face wash for a few years now. A little pricey but worth it. You only need a little dab and it lathers up nicely. One 5 fl. oz. lasts me around 6 months.

    Fantastic!!

My mother-in-law had gotten me some samples from the Estee Lauder company, and they gave her the frothy face wash and the face scrub from Origins. They're both great!! I have bumpy/combination oily skin with lots of dirt that builds up on my nose and chin. In minutes, this CLEARS EVERYTHINGGGGGG. I message it everywhere on my face and it leaves me squeaky clean without drying or stripping my skin, I love it!
