This fireplace is super flexible-you can choose to add the insert or leave it out. I decided to include it, and installation was a breeze. The light show is really cool! I'm a fan of the white lights, while my wife loves the teal, so we both win. You can enjoy the realistic log fire display with or without the heat, which is great for setting the mood year-round.
