About the Book
"An invitation to young readers to roll up their sleeves, get inspired, and take action to build a sustainable, just, and loving world, this book is an illustrated A-Z of everyday actions that make a peaceful, fun, and vibrant world"--Book Synopsis
An invitation to young readers to roll up their sleeves, get inspired, and take action to build a sustainable, just, and loving world. Peace, Love, Action! is an illustrated, illuminated A-Z of everyday actions that directly make a peaceful, fun, and vibrant world. With original artworks bringing each action to life, "make friends," "go local," "cooperate," "forgive" --seemingly small deeds can really add up! Illustrated by Tanya Zabinski in her characteristic earthy style, each action comes with an inspirational mini-bio of a real hero who exemplifies that action, from Thich Nhat Hanh ("breathe") to Wangari Maathai ("plant"), and follows with a set of "What You Can Do" prompts. With a foreword by singer-songwriter and activist legend, Ani DiFranco.Review Quotes
"Peace Love Action! perfectly embodies one of the key messages that I am always trying to get across to children around the world--that every day we live on this planet, we make some impact--and we have a choice as to what sort of difference we make."
-- Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, UN Messenger of Peace "Anyone can take action to make the world a better place. Peace, Love, Action! Everyday Acts of Goodness from A to Z is an illustrated guide, filled with steps readers can take to make a difference... [and]... true stories about people whose actions have made a big impact." --TIME for Kids
"Peace, Love, Action! gathers a diverse mix of activists who contribute to peace in the world in inventive and individual ways. It gives the reader a lens to see each day as an opportunity to practice peace and justice." --Sister Helen Prejean, campaigner against the death penalty and author of Dead Man Walking "This book touches a nerve for anyone who wishes to hear the bells of freedom, and play a part in ringing them." --Innosanto Nagara, author and illustrator of A is for Activist and M is for Movement
"This book stands us on the shoulders of activists like Ella Baker, who inspire us through their example. May it empower people of all ages to build a world that works for all."-- Zachary Norris, executive director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, ellabakercenter.org "This book is hands-on, down-to-earth and practical, as well as visually stunning, inspiring, and nurturing to the spirit, just like some fertile soil!"
--Leah Penniman, cofounder of Soul Fire Farm, and author of Farming While Black: Soul Fire Farm's Practical Guide to Liberation on the Land "I recommend Peace, Love, Action! for the toolbox of every family and school who wants to bring more love into the world."
--Valarie Kaur, civil rights activist, lawyer, filmmaker, and founder of the Revolutionary Love Project "It's a cliché to say this is an illustrated book for our times, but it is! Tanya Zabinski has created a much-needed book for the middle-grade reader--and for teachers to use to introduce exemplary people and concepts. Stunning, woodcut-like artwork puts the frosting on this cake!"
--Tomie dePaola, award-winning illustrator/writer of more than 270 books, including Strega Nona and Quiet
About the Author
TANYA ZABINSKI views life as the ultimate artwork and aspires to live an artful, heartful, and mindful life. She studied art, design, music, and philosophy at Buffalo State College, Parsons School of Design, and Kansai Gaidai University in Japan, and she is a recipient of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators Tomie dePaola Award. A true community artist, Tanya and her husband, Joe DiPasquale, cofounded the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts in Buffalo, NY. For 25 years they have run Planet Love, their own art-based business, exhibiting at more than 20 outdoor art and music festivals per year. Instantly recognizable to those who know and love her art, Zabinski's prints reach a wide audience through printing on the accessible media of T-shirts, banners and paper. She is a life-long yoga and meditation practitioner, bicyclist, camper, hiker and because she lives in the very snowy hills south of Buffalo, NY, a cross-country skier.Dimensions (Overall): 8.66 Inches (H) x 6.22 Inches (W) x .55 Inches (D)
