Description

From the New York Times bestselling author of Beach Read, a sparkling new novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She's a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart--she's in New York City, and he's in their small hometown--but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven't spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she's stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together--lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

"Emily Henry is my newest automatic-buy author, and People We Meet on Vacation is the perfect getaway: a heartfelt, funny, tender escape that you wish could last forever." --Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Book of Two Ways

People We Meet on Vacation is a gorgeous slow-burn romance, full of sexual tension and tantalizing possibility. I fell head over heels for Alex and Poppy, and loved travelling all over the world with them both. --Beth O'Leary, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Flatshare

This is a perfect rom com, and I completely adored it. I think Emily Henry might be our generation's answer to Nora Ephron. A witty, warm page turner." --Sophie Cousens, New York Times bestselling author of GMA book club pick This Time Next Year

"Emily Henry is a STAR! Deeply emotional and starkly funny, People We Meet on Vacation cements Emily Henry as the Queen of Banter. Rom-com fans will swoon over this slow burn friends-to-lovers romance. Poppy and Alex are real and flawed and ultra-lovable, and their Summer Trips will scratch an itch for those of us who've missed traveling. A perfect summer read!" --Alexis Daria, bestselling author of You Had Me at Hola

A compulsively readable book full of sparkling wit, dazzling prose and a romance that grabbed me by the heart and wouldn't let me go. --Abby Jimenez, USA Today bestselling author of Life's Too Short

An absolute delight: swoony, legitimately moving, and packed with witty banter that makes Alex and Poppy jump off the page. We are already waiting impatiently for whatever Emily writes next. --Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, USA Today bestselling authors of The Royal We and The Heir Affair

Henry's skills with sensory detail and lovable characters shine through. This is a strong choice for readers looking for a vicarious summer vacation of their own. --Publishers Weekly

This book was soooo boring. The back and fourth was torturous to read through, I started skipping them, it took me 3 months to finish this book, it just couldn’t hold my interest. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!

I felt this book was boring. There was not enough happening to hold my interest. I finished it. I can’t say I recommend the book. This is the third book i have read by this author. I really liked the first one but they have gotten worse with each one I read. I don’t really like the female lead. There is no chemistry between the two main characters. The vacations were so boring to read about that I just scanned over most of them.

I read 2 books when I was traveling last weekend and this book “People You Meet on Vacation” by @emilyhenrywrites … I couldn’t put down! As someone that has moved and traveled a lot, I found myself connecting with the lead character, Poppy, on every level. I have moved dozens of times and lived in different cities and states in an attempt to find that feeling of ‘home.’ I finally found my ‘home’ in a person. I found what I was looking for, just like Poppy. “You can’t outrun yourself. Not your history, not your fears, not the parts of yourself you’re worried are wrong.” - Emily Henry. Read this book!!!

I hate it. I’m only half way in and I don’t think I’m going to finish. Feels like it’s never going to end. There’s too much stories of them going on back and forth from their past and future vacations but nothing is developing in their relationship.

The plot was horrible. You get everything you need within the first chapter. The rest of the book is just nonsense. The huge “fall out” was pointless. Just filler pages. This book was so insufferable to read. I’m hoping her other title is better.

This wasn’t my favorite book of all time, but it was definitely a really good read! Although it did drag a little throughout, I didn’t find myself bored but rather kept wanting to know what the big deal was between the two. I’m really into Christina Lauren and Colleen Hoover books, so in comparison, this was a good runner up to a good summer read! I guess I was more impacted by the message I personally got from it, which is to live in the moment and don’t hold back or let fear of the unknown consume you so much that it doesn’t allow you to do what you desire most. I guess I kind of did like this book more than I’m letting on lol. Just read it!

Friends to Lovers has never been done better

People We Meet on Vacation was my first Emily Henry book and I can guarantee you that it won't be my last! I thoroughly loved this book and have been constantly recommending it to every friend I have since I started it! Normally friends to lovers isn't my favorite go to trope but this book really did me in. It was like friends to distant acquaintances to lovers and I ate it up! There's something about a man who reads and will do anything for the girl he's secretly in love with that just gets me. Alex is the perfect MMC for this novel, he's sensitive and family grounded and a good listener which is just the person that Poppy needs to balance out her eccentric energy. The two of them are a dynamic pair and that scene on the scaffolding, chef's kiss to you Emily Henry for that masterpiece. This book has forced proximity, the one bed trope, and a then vs. now narrative that will make anyone feel like they're involved in the story. Highly recommended!

I decided to start reading fictional novels after graduating college and chose to start with this book. I loved every aspect of this book especially the vacations the characters took because it made me feel like I was on it with them. I related so much to Poppy and her family and appreciated reading this slow love story. The book was predictable but I do NOT regret reading it all! highly recommend this book to anyone who is a sucker for romance.
