As with a lot of memory foam items, it took a little while to expand fully and did have a weird smell for the first afternoon. The seams seem a little weak and wonky and the fabric is thin. My two cats and dog love it, but unfortunately it has already ripped at the seams after a week of use. It's still usable though. If your dog is rough with its bed I'd look for one that is a little more sturdy.
