The Pillsbury pie crusts have been a staple for many guests over the years, praised for their convenience and taste. However, recent reviews indicate a decline in quality, with issues such as shrinkage, cracking, and an off taste. While some guests still find them useful for quick baking, others are disappointed with the changes in size and texture, affecting their baking results.

I give this 3 stars because the taste and texture of these pie crusts is still very good. A few years back, I would have given them 5 stars, but the quality and quantity has dropped: 1) the pie crusts are not big enough to go all the way up a deep/normal glass pie pan. So, no nice crust lip on your pie. 2) the crusts seem to be thin - when you precook the crust, it bends down. 3) the crusts seem like they have some sort of liquid filler that dissipates while cooking, such that they shrink a great deal. So between the shrinking, the thinness, and the smaller size to start, when you precook, you end up with a small shrunken crust that is more like the shallow crusts that you buy in a tinfoil pan. Seriously, this has frustrated me enough that I’m on the edge of not buying them anymore.

Two days ago (01/21/25) I made a turkey pot pie. I did not have the time to make piecrusts, so I used Pillsbury Pie Crusts. I was concerned because I'd found so many negative reviews for the piecrusts on this site. But I had no other option. I used them. The "BEST if used by" date on the package was "14 MAR 2025." A few things: 1) Both crusts had an eleven-inch diameter. More than enough for a nine-inch pie. 2) There was absolutely no unusual smell. 3) I blind-baked the bottom crust. Shrinkage was minimal -- just what you'd expect from a properly-made piecrust. (All properly-made piecrusts MUST shrink somewhat as they lose water during baking.) 4) The crusts had a very good flavor. I recommend these piecrusts highly.

I make the best chicken pot pie ever with 1 single crust. All you need is: 1 rotisserie chicken, (chicken meat pulled), 1/2 bag mixed frozen veggies, 1 envelope powdered chicken gravy, cup of water, 1 pie crust. Unfold the circular pie crust and cut a circle for the bottom of the pie pan only (save the scrape for strips on top.) Cook bottom crust then pile the chicken on top of crust. After making the instant gravy, dump in the veggies and let sit a minute. Pour onto chicken and then put stripes of leftover crust across the top. Cook until crust is brown and filling hot (15-20 minutes on 400.) BEST Pot Pie EVER!

For all that I love to bake, I can't make a pie crust to save my life. Sigh. But at least this product never let's me down. Good flavor crust, not too thick or thin, and it turns out pretty every time. Use a combination of an egg and milk wash for bakery-like results!

Used these for years but stopped because it seemed they were lesser quality. Just thought I would try again and the stupid crust shrank to 2/3 (or less) when prebaked for quiche. So thin you can see through it. Dont waste your money.

Oh Pillsbury, why did you have to change your pie crust recipe? Even out of the box without rolling it thinner, it barely fits my pie plate. Now the crusts are sticking to my pie plate and I can barely make an edge. What did you do? Bring back the pie crust you had in the past. If you used lard before, bring it back. If you cut back, put more back in!

Christmas and Thanksgiving pie fail with Pillsbury crusts- so disappointing- have used these crusts for years and something has changed. They shrink terribly and look oily both with pre-baking and straight baking. All the filling spills over the shrunken crusts. My daughter had this happen too. No time to make a homemade crust. Thanks for ruining our pies Pillsbury.

Pillsbury -- what is the issue lately with these pie crusts? Luckily I had 2 boxes in my fridge because the first box of crusts were terrible. They ripped apart when unrolling and couldn't be salvaged. I've used this product in the past and never had this kind of issue. They seem thinner. Also, why don't you make a true 9" deep dish pie crust as many pie dishes are deep dish nowadays. It's not a good look for the finished pie when the crust shrinks and you can't make a beautiful fluted edge.

These are not 9" pie crusts. Probably better for an 8" pie plate in order to get the crust at the rim to fold over and do a nice crimp. I would rather pay more for a true 9" deep dish pie crust that is big enough to crimp a 9" pie.

Various members of my family have used these pie crusts for years without issue. This year, while baking our Thanksgiving pies in two separate states using Pillsbury pie crusts bought weeks apart, we both experienced the terrible shrinkage other reviewers have mentioned. We both had to throw out the first attempt of a blind baked crust because it puffed up and shrank too much to even fit the pie filling in it. And yes, we poked holes in it. We poked even more holes in the second crust before baking, and that turned out sightly better but was still deformed and embarrassing to present. Pillsbury, what did you do to these crusts???

I have used your pie crust for eons for its quality and ease. But this year's Thanksgiving crust was soooo bad! It baked up hard as concrete and not the least flakey. From recent reviews, it seams I'm not the only one to purchase this inferior product. Sure messed with my famous pecan pie.

I have used your pie dough in the past, and it's always been decent, the pie dough i bought this time must have been missing some ingredient, because both pie crusts SHRUNK when I pre-baked them. Next time I will stick to making my own dough from scratch. Your product was a waste of money.

Like other reviewers, I agree that the crust is very thin and did shrink. It didn't shrink as much as others stated, but I used weights and covered the crust edge with a silicone crust protector. This was the first and last time I'll use this product. I threw away the unused second crust.
