There are many variables that have contributed to the content of the stories in this book and Brenda Musick's passion for writing about the mountains she loves. The harsh conditions of mountain life and lack of material objects in the natural environment of her childhood and adolescence produced unique experiences worthy of appearing in print. The love and cohesion within her nuclear and extended families and social interaction with her entire kinship unit during the early socialization process resulted in tales and behaviors that should be remembered and shared with people who never had the opportunity to experience life in the mountain region in the mid-1900's. Neighbors and friends in the mountain environment shared stories about their lives and experiences that made cogent contributions to this book.
