Book Synopsis
Rediscover Jane Austen's beloved classic in a truly elegant format illustrated by Marjolein Bastin--both a reading experience and a beautiful keepsake. In early nineteenth-century England, Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters are under pressure to secure their future by suitable marriages, but limited fortunes and rigid social rules make this challenging. When amiable neighbor Mr. Bingley arrives with his haughty friend Mr. Darcy, tensions arise, pride is tested, and hearts are stirred. Through misunderstandings, alliances, and revelations, Austen weaves a rich tapestry of love, class, and character. This deluxe edition is destined to become a favorite among Austen devotees--whether as a gift for a special occasion or simply to treat yourself. The elegant design and collectible additions make it ideal for readers who cherish not just the story, but the world that Austen created. Inside, you'll find:- Luxurious, full-page illustrations by internationally celebrated artist Marjolein Bastin that bring the world of Regency England to life
- Custom ephemera carefully woven into the narrative: four-color maps, detailed family trees, vintage-style letters, and authentic period sheet music
- Unabridged text of Austen's novel, preserving every word, wit, and insight.
About the Author
Marjolein Bastin's passion for the natural world is of a universal quality that appeals to people the world over. You can find Marjolein's artwork on greeting cards, calendars, dinnerware, bedding, gifts, and many other products. But for Marjolein, only one thing remains important: spend every day behind her desk painting the natural world around her. She also writes and illustrates children's books featuring the endearing Vera the Mouse character, which she created. Through her art and words, Marjolein offers people a simple reminder to pause and enjoy nature and allow it to be a source of serenity, energy, and healing. Finding inspiration in a bird lighting on a branch or a leaf drying in the autumn sun, Marjolein takes long walks each afternoon to seek new ideas for her artwork and her writings. Marjolein and her husband, Gaston, divide their time between country homes in Holland, Switzerland, and in Missouri, as well a tropical retreat in the Cayman Islands. Each setting provides a unique glimpse of what nature has to offer throughout the world. The couple has a son, Mischa, a daughter, Sanna, and two grandchildren.Dimensions (Overall): 9.8 Inches (H) x 6.9 Inches (W) x 1.2 Inches (D)

This is a gorgeous edition of Pride and Prejudice. (It is also priced better at Target.) The illustrations of Marjolein Bastin are beautiful. This is so beautiful and timeless, and it was a lovely edition to our library-- and also well-received gifts for others. Target is now my go-to for books.
Deceptive, waste of money

I bought 2 of these for my daughter who is a huge Austen fan. What a disappointment. There are NO, repeat ZERO illustrations of characters or scenes from the novel; instead every few pages has a few insipid drawings of flowers and birdies . That’s it. The “extras” including Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth and maps of Highbury are simply inserted loose between random pages: no pockets to keep them in place and no list or index. The “Emma” extras consist primarily for recipes for some reason, as well as a letter to Austen’s publisher. These would have been just as useful if they had been printed on pages in the book, but most of them aren’t useful at all: there is nothing that contributes to one’s understanding or knowledge of the novels. Huge waste of money. There are better illustrated and annotated editions than this overpriced piffle.
