"Joanna Shupe is the queen of historical bad boys!" -- Julia Quinn

"Shupe's well-loved Fifth Avenue Rebels series returns with a very saucy friends-with-benefits story. As ever, her command of historical details enlivens the story as much as her command of intimate ones... The Mrs. Astor of Gilded Age romances provides another smart and sexy read." -- Kirkus Reviews (starred review) on The Bride Goes Rogue

"Shupe (the Uptown Girls series) opens her Fifth Avenue Rebels series with this effortlessly diverting Gilded Age romance... [Harrison and Maddie's] sexual chemistry and dynamic banter, especially during intimate moments, convey an alluring blend of love and playfulness. This character-driven historical romance is sure to delight." -- Publishers Weekly on The Heiress Hunt

"Joanna Shupe vividly evokes 1890s New York, from glamorous restaurants to a Bowery boxing hall to the original Madison Square Garden." -- New York Times Book Review on The Rogue of Fifth Avenue

"Swoon! With The Rogue of Fifth Avenue, Shupe continues to build on the sterling legacy she's building for herself as a gifted weaver of glittering Gilded Age tales (complete with lots of nod to real historical figures), while also deepening the contemporary resonance of her themes." -- Entertainment Weekly

The eighth Duke of Lockwood. I wasn't a fan of him in the preceding books of this series. He seemed so...Duke like! Obviously the women he was trying to woo...weren't the correct ones. Then, a late night ocean swim and he finds THE ONE! She's almost all in...the she realizes who he is...and, figuratively, slams the door on his...ummmm...foot! What a fabulous way to end this series! I love Eleanor 'Nellie' Young. A firebrand and women's rights supporter. I sincerely HOPE there were women like Nellie during this time in American history. She doesn't care what people say about her, most of the time. She can care less about her reputation, until it bleeds over into others reputations if they associate with her. She is a staunch supporter of teaching women how their bodies work, and how to not get pregnant, or be enslaved by their husbands or boyfriends. Of course she can afford to do this with her father who owns railroads around the country. Andrew Talbot, Duke of Lockwood is land wealthy and cash poor. He has come to America looking for a virginal and biddable woman to become his Duchess. If he can't find one, he will have to sell his ancestral home. He is very motivated to find a young woman who can bear him children, after her family pays his debts. Then, he finds out who his ocean swim beauty is and he is torn. Does he need the red haired vixen who has stolen his heart, or one of the interchangeable vanilla crème young ladies he has come to America to find? Hot. Hot. Hot. Great scenes with Nellie wondering if she's good enough outside of the bedroom, but telling herself she is just having an affair. Lockwood quickly realizing he can't continue his quest for a nice quiet girl because his nature needs to be challenged and he's found the woman who makes him whole. This book can be read as a standalone. Some of the characters that were in the preceeding books are also in this one. Although you know there is a bit more background, it's not imperative that you read them in order. Ms. Shupe has done her homework about the political issues taking place in this era of American history. Unfortunately, it seems like we're repeating some of the more censuring laws that were taking place then, now. Great book. I can't wait to see what this author has in store for us next!

The Duke Finally Gets His Story!

The Duke Gets Even is the fourth book in Joanna Shupe's The Fifth Avenue Rebels series and follows Andrew Talbot, Duke of Lockwood and Elenor (Nellie) Young. Lockwood has been through the ringer in the previous books of the series, nearly marrying or proposing to all the heroines, all Nellie’s friends. Nellie is a fun heroine, not living by society’s standards as well as helping to procure birth control and distribute it to those in need. Lockwood, on the verge of financial ruin, is in New York in search of a rich wife to give him much needed heirs. Nellie agrees to help Lockwood find a wife, but of course, things go awry when feelings get in the way. I have been eagerly waiting for Lockwood’s story and was not disappointed. Coming off as proper and sometimes stiff previously, he lets loose in this one and I was SO ready for it! I love the reason for a last act breakup and I saw so much of myself in Nellie, this book was definitely a favorite read of mine for 2022. We all deserve a handsome Englishman like Lockwood! Highly recommend it! Although it can be read as a standalone, Lockwood features so much in the previous books, it's a very satisfying read in order.
