Q: I'd like to know the Expiry date on"PUR Pitcher Replacement Filter, 6 Pack" .

submitted by Helena - 9 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry Helena. As long as the filters are still sealed in their original foil and have not been exposed to excessive heat, they should still be good for use. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@HelenofTroy.com. Thank you.

  • A: I use the decals that come with the pitcher. they run a 60 day cycle. However, I find that I go thru them faster in the summer time as I use more water drinking, then I seem to change the filter every 45 days. Take in mind that this will depend on the size of your household and water conditions of your area. I do prefer the PUR over Brita as I had one of those in the past.

  • A: There is no expiration date on the packaging or on the sealed filter packets. This does not surprise me. I am a chemist with a great deal of experience in filtration and activated charcoal type filters. Simply put, I cannot see a reason why the product would expire provided the seals are intact and unopened for the packets containing the actual filter. Of course you can open the box without difficulty. The product should function quite effectively for many years.

Q: The original filters said "Removes 96% Mercury and 95% of certain Industrial Pollutants." The box for these says "Reduces Copper, Mercury..." etc. The webpage gives percentages but that's probably for the original filters. Are the percentages still true?

submitted by KDude - 6 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, the percentages of the contaminants that are removed are the same. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact our consumer relations team by emailing us at SocialSupport@HelenofTroy.com. Thank you.

  • A: After some web research, I found that the percentages are different. However, this faster filter is still impressive... Comparing the original basic filter CRF950Z with the new/faster basic filter PPF900Z: (Note that "NOT CERTIFIED" could mean certification is pending, certification was not sought, or certification failed.) Chlorine (taste & odor) -- original filter >97.5%; faster filter 96.8%. (Very close!) Nominal Particulate (Class 1) -- original filter 99.1%; faster filter NOT CERTIFIED. Zinc -- original filter 86.9%; faster filter 64%. (FYI: Zinc is an essential trace element.) Cyst -- original filter >99.99%; faster filter NOT CERTIFIED. 2,4-D -- original filter 86.0%; faster filter NOT CERTIFIED. Atrazine -- original filter 82.7%; faster filter NOT CERTIFIED. Benzene -- original filter >96.4%; faster filter 86.4%. Cadmium (pH 6.5) -- original filter 98.3%; faster filter 90.2%. Cadmium (pH 8.5) -- original filter 98.7%; faster filter 86.7%. Copper (pH 6.5) -- original filter 98.2%; faster filter 85.7%. Copper (pH 8.5) -- original filter 95.1%; faster filter 90.1%. Mercury (pH 6.5) -- original filter 96.7%; faster filter 96.5%. Mercury (pH 8.5) -- original filter >96.6%; faster filter 88.8%. Tetrachloroethylene -- original filter >96.6%; faster filter 92.5%. Carbon Tetrachloride -- original filter 96.0%; faster filter NOT CERTIFIED.

Q: does the filter replacement for PPF900Z get rid of microplastics

submitted by Connie - 2 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry about the PUR Water Pitcher & Dispenser Replacement Filter. While the PPF900Z filter is effective for various contaminants, it does not specifically remove microplastics. For that purpose, we recommend using our filter model CRF950Z, which is designed to reduce microplastics. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to us at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com for more assistance.

Q: How much heat would be excessive before use? For instance, should they still work after exposure to 150°F for a day while being shipped ground? (screen name is unrelated to this product)

submitted by Disappointed - 2 years ago
  • A: Apparently not, which I'd guess is why no answer a month later. I gave up on getting a response and tried one... the water tastes funky, so I'm out $40 because Target ships from Phoenix AZ.
