Q: is this a paper canister?

submitted by tina - 4 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Tina. Our Quaker Old Fashioned Oats are packaged in a cardboard tube. We hope this information helps.

submitted byQuaker Customer Support - 4 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: Not entirely. There is a plastic rim at the top that must be cut out if you want to recycle the cardboard.

Q: This says "Does not contain any of the 8 major allergens". Does this mean they can be called "gluten free"? Just checking before I make GF desserts for friends.

submitted by jfeerst - 6 years ago
  • A: I'm not sure. I would either try Googling your question and/or check the Quaker website, there may be a phone number to call and ask them. Hope this helps.

submitted byRL - 6 years ago
  • A: Hi, Jfeerst. Quaker Old Fashioned Oats are not considered gluten free. We do offer gluten free oatmeal in 3 varieties: 18 oz. Quaker Quick 1-Minute Oats, and Quaker Instant Oatmeal in 10 count Original and 8 count Maple & Brown Sugar. Quaker gluten-free varieties are clearly labeled on packages and available in stores under the Quaker Select Starts line.

Q: Are these oats processed in a faciliity that uses equipment to process anything with tree nuts?

submitted by Mary - 4 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Mary. If any of the top eight allergens (Milk, Egg, Fish, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Shellfish, Soy, Wheat) are an ingredient or a component of the ingredient, the allergen will be listed in the Ingredients list or included in a "Contains" statement immediately after the Ingredients list. This is consistent with FDA labeling requirements. For products made on production lines where we produce other varieties that have different allergens not contained in the product, the line is thoroughly cleaned between productions. Due to the complexity of some of the equipment in some instances it may be difficult to clean some areas completely. Because we realize the seriousness of food allergens, in those instances, we warn consumers about the possibility of trace amounts of specific allergens on shared production lines when applicable, with a "may contain" advisory statement on the label. We recommend consumers look for these statements each time they purchase a product as formulas may change.

Q: Looking for rolled oats, is this brand rolled oats ?

submitted by Lee - 4 years ago
  • A: Thanks for asking, Lee. The oats are cleaned and steamed to eliminate the undesirable enzymes present in raw oats, then 'toasted' to give them a roasted, nutty flavor. Some oats are cut into pieces to reduce cooking time and produce a more smooth and creamy texture when cooked. Oats are steamed just long enough to make them soft. Then they are passed between rollers. We hope this information helps.

Q: can you cook in microwave

submitted by Audrey - 6 years ago
  • A: Hi, Audrey. Old Fashioned Quaker Oats can be prepared in a microwave as follows: Combine water, oats and salt in medium microwaveable bowl. Microwave on HIGH for 2-1/2 to 3 minutes. Stir before serving.

Love Quaker oatmeal; hate the haphazard shipping

1 out of 5 stars
Rachel - 4 months ago, Verified purchaser
I was pretty disappointed when I received my target delivery order and everything was just thrown in this huge box without any care. Oatmeal container busted and oatmeal was everywhere! Plus, I got a gift bag that was just thrown in the box with things on top of it so it was all bent and ripped when I got it. Lastly, why is Target so wasteful with their shipping?? They will send a small item in a huge box. It’s extremely wasteful, not to mention incredibly inefficient.

Cardboard lid inside the plastic lid open, bugs

Slimmy had to toss - 9 months ago
My husband thought nothing of the cardboard lid being a little open since the plastic lid was secure but when he dumped it in to the clean, clear canister there were little, thin, black bugs all over in the oats. Make sure to pop the plastic lid off before buying. We got ours delivered.

Great price for such a large amount! I barely eat them so they are lasting me AGES! Will probably use them for baking pretty soon to use them up! However, just something to point out is they are not gluten free (they don't claim to be but it was not super clear to me!) Just thought i'd save someone the trouble of having to see that quaker does not claim to be GF at ALL (go for specifically GF if you need it!) :)

These get the job done for overnight oats! I love them and the consistency is great (I use almond milk). They even have a nice recipe on the inside for oatmeal cookies that I’m so ready to try! Such a big container too, so they will last a good while depending on what you’re using them for!
