It looks as if they missed spots when painting yet if you look at the pictures prior to purchasing, that is done on purpose and the design of the basket. I am using my basket for the pantry area to store items that I use frequently as it is easier to obtain from the closet when in a basket with handles. It is small, but you can use in any room of your house. I may also purchase one to use for putting mail in verses the counter as it can be easily hidden when guests arrive. Basket itself is very sturdy and can hold a lot of weight without cracking. I packed a whole bunch of snacks for a family vacation in this bin so it was easily accessible throughout the trip and it really helped to keep things in place and easy find and use. I am currently using the basket for some of my son’s books. I might play around with the basket. The basket has washed look to it. The basket comes in a couple of different sizes and shapes. I love the taller sides as it gives you more flexibility to store things inside. The woven look makes this bin match any design and look great on the shelf. I typically use these to hide toys so they are away and not out. The price is a little higher, but I do like how it has the metal frame so it is sturdy for use.
