Shadow Bug Has Trapped My Heart!
First, I love the translucent creatures from the Eldrador Worlds. My favorite world is the Shadow World. (Followed closely by the Ice World!) Recently I bought a whole bunch of Shadow World Creatures, and filmed video reviews of the openings. I will post reviews of them over time, but today this is the Shadow Bug Battle Cave! The idea of crystaline creatures is amazing. But I want to talk about Engineering for a second. As a toy maker and designer myself, I am so in awe of the engineers of this Battle Cave who could make ONE PIECE fit into a cube. The same piece fits no matter how you put it together! And the connecting pieces all fit wherever you want! The instruction guide is just a suggestion! Each piece has spaces for hinged parts, so doors can open where once walls stood. Traps can take the place of a floor. The possibilities are staggering! The construction was fairly easy, with the most difficult part being how to put the Grabbing Rib Trap together, but once it is together, it snaps shut by pushing on the bottom of a piece, allowing you to trap a creature. And the Shadow Bug is awesome. In the good way. It is a bit creepy and wonderful. So to Schleich, keep these coming!

Imaginative play
I wish you could buy accessories because my son already lost the “shadow crystal” and doesn’t want to play with it without its “power”

Good idea, but poor execution
The battle cave is a cool idea, but in my experience where I’ve assembled 6 battle caves, the pieces do not fit together well and stay assembled. They do not function as intended or hold the crystals at all. They are difficult to manipulate when a child is play with them & quickly became set aside. Very disappointed.

$17 for a box that causes frustration.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We love the Eldrador series. Unfortunately, these new toys have not lived up to the standards we have come to expect with Schleich. We preassembled the boxes before giving them to our kids (7 and 5 year old boys). Immediately (seriously, within 1 minute), parts were falling off. On the shadow box, the rollers will not stay in. On the tarantula cage, the netting side, for lack of a better word, is constantly falling off. The boys are not rough with the boxes, they just are not built well. The Eldrador characters that came with are not as detailed as I would expect, but they are still within the bounds of normalcy, so I wasn’t too concerned. The figurines that come with the boxes can be bought separately for $12.99, so essentially, the cages that they no longer play with because the cages fall apart when any side is opened, are $17, which is totally not worth it in my opinion. I just put the shadow cage away and it is missing one of the corner pieces. Again, my kids are not rough with their toys. They were not throwing them around at all. They were OPENING the hinged doors that are supposed to open. The idea of these is fun, but the execution and build is poor. I do not recommend.
