Book Synopsis
Boys and girls, mothers and fathers, meet your new best friend! Scoop the Ice Cream Truck doesn't quite fit in with modern times. He tries to change to make himself more popular just to fit in, only to discover, through friendship, that he is fine just the way he is! Scoop the Ice Cream Truck has seen a lot of summers selling his vanilla ice cream cones across the city. But he's getting old, and the new trucks are getting fancier. Now they have waffle cones, jumbo sundaes, flash frozen ice cream, twenty-seven flavors and six special toppings. Feeling like he's fallen behind, Scoop decides that it's time for a redesign. But when his old frame can't handle the new upgrades, can Scoop discover his own value and find the right spot to sell his vanilla cones? With beautiful full-color art, and a lesson to teach, here is a book that will be a joy for parents and children at bedtime, or any time. This paperback edition includes supplemental information about the history of ice cream trucks at the back of the book.Review Quotes
"Keeler does not patronize the intelligence of young readers; instead she trusts them to stretch their minds a bit. The illustrations by Patricia Keeler are charming and her artwork has a uniquely individual style that assists in bringing home the book's message. It works. Highly recommended." --San Francisco Book Review

The classic illustrations perfectly match the retro vibe of this book as Scoop, an old-fashioned ice-cream truck, is finding there may not be room for him with all larger variety of offerings from the newer trucks. I'd say it's an unlikely friendhsip story between a girl and an ice-cream truck, but, really, is there a better BFF to have than an ice-cream truck?! The information in the back about the first ice-cream trucks is interesting--something I didn't know--and adds an educational element to a fun, heartwarming story.
A Sweet Read!

SCOOP THE ICE CREAM TRUCK - 1 year ago, Verified purchaser
Wow! Ever since The LITTLE BLUE TRUCK picture books came out, I’ve been hoping for another little truck picture book for kids, and SCOOP THE ICE CREAM TRUCK is the (ice) cream of the crop—with a red cherry on the top! I especially like this lovely story, because the main character, Scoop, befriends a young girl, hence more of a great read to share with my young granddaughters. My granddaughters, ages 3 and 6, both love trucks, as well as ice cream. Who doesn’t?! Scoop is an old ice cream truck who doesn’t quite fit into these modern times with all the bigger, fancier specialty ice cream trucks. He’s resting on a side street when BOING BOING he meets Spunky. They become pals, but this relationship is threatened when those fancier, more modern trucks start showing up. In an effort to better compete with the other trucks, Scoop strives to change—to make himself bigger, fancier and offer way more ice cream flavors. He tries and fails, and tries again, which ultimately makes his new friend happy while having his own dreams come true! 5 stars for sure!
