A: The new Scotchgard(TM) Fabric Water Shield will work similar to the previous Scotchgard(TM) Fabric & Upholstery Protector with some differences, however, it can be applied to the same surfaces as the Scotchgard(TM) Fabric & Upholstery Protector. The new formulation will repel water and water-based stains, like juice, soda, coffee and wine. However, the new formulation will no longer repel oil-based stains. You may notice fabric has a ""slightly darker, richer tone"" after application. Prior to use, test for colorfastness. Spray in an inconspicuous area and allow article to dry completely to check for color change. Protect surrounding non-fabric surfaces/materials from overspray. The new Scotchgard(TM) Fabric Water Shield does not use perfluoroalkl or polyfluoralkyl substances (PFAS). 3M has made the decision to transition away from the use of PFAS in Scotchgard(TM) products as part of our commitment to environmental stewardship and minimizing the impact of our products on the environment. What happened to the "Fabric Protector" spray that actually worked to repel liquids?? This stuff is absolute trash; it does not work to repel water at all!! I gave three test strips, (each a different style of upholstery fabric, all stated as types this product should be effective for) 3-4 coats (half-hour between each coat) and let them dry in my office (heated/well ventilated) overnight. Today, all three are EXTREMELY absorbant... Each test strip's fibers wicked up completely full of water within 2 seconds of running under the faucet 🤨. I have suspicions this product's reviews rely solely on the merits of the products that came before (and whose cans look so similar, I've had minor arguments with at least 3 different register clerks while looking for the old versions)... That, or these new reviews are bought and paid for... Long story short: This product doesn't work. Bring back the old formula!

It was not worth it to apply! I applied inside (first mistake), and the smell is so awful. It was for two chairs, but I didn't think it was a big deal to take them outside since the packaging says odorless. I eventually took them outside, and the smell is still so potent, even after several hours! Even if does the job of stainproofing, it is simply not worth it for the smell. Litterally just bought an air purifier to try and filter things out. If you are worried about your furniture, look for alternative solutions, not Scotchgard! People claim that the old formula was good (I don't know personally), but this new stuff is gross. It's a chemically smell that you can't stop thinking about. For comparison, I consider something like paint strong, but neutral in terms of pleasantness. This stuff is just strong and bad!

Followed instructions on application for a baseball cap. Did not repel water/moisture or sweat. Followed up with several heavy coats. Still did not repel wetness on baseball new caps. Left with sweats stains to be cleaned. This product does not work for hats. I give it a big “FAIL”!

I wish I read the reviews before buying. i bought two cans of this poison to protect a brand new sectional sofa. The can says odorless when dry. Followed the directions as stated. Went with two light one pass sprayings as the can recommended and waited between sprayings to dry. Its been over 12 hours and my house still smells like paint thinner. To make matters worse, the product did absolutely nothing to repel water as I did a test spill and it soaked right through. Complete waste of money and now a brand new couch ruined because it smells like paint thinner. And then I see all these reviews about the smell and the generic copy paste response from scotchgard. These guys should face a class lawsuit for their deliberate deception claiming their product drys odorless and waterproofs fabric. Seriously, they have product photos of this poison being applied to dress shirts. Who in their right mind is going to walk around willingly smelling like petroleum.

The odor is awful and does not go away. I sprayed my couch - two light coats. The smell is so strong that I dread being in my house. I had the windows open, fan on for ventilation. I am using gel odor neutralizer and Febreeze to try to get rid of the odor. I can still smell the chemical.

Did not make my back pack waterproof, or water resistant. Used 2 coats and let them dry. Just drizzled water onto the pack and it soaked right through. Didn't help at all. Disappointed because the can said that it can be used on backpacks.

I've been using this for years to protect my tablecloths and love it. I would love to see this released as a dryer sheet though so when I wash the tablecloth I add a dryer sheet and my tablecloth (or clothes or whatever) come out of the dryer protected against stains, etc.
