[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This shade mix grass seed is great. It is so hard to get grass to grow under the trees in my yard because it never gets any sun. This grass seed mix worked wonders for covering the bare patches there. I would definitely recommend this product

Great product. Started it in mid-spring & it grew in thick until mid-summer temperatures (28-34 c) killed off most of the new growth. The area gets 2-3 hrs of late afternoon sun daily. Gonna try again in the early fall. Hope the winter won't kill off the fall growth.
Grows in shade like it says.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This grass seed will definitely grow in shade, but it will grow in slowly. I'm not sure if this is because of the cool spring that slowed germination. What has grown in is still alive and thriving in an area that had significant bare spots. This area does receive some sun, maybe 4 hours a day.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We used this grass seed to patch some areas that didn’t grow previously. We aerated, added the seed, and added straw on top. We watered everyday and within two weeks or so you could see the grass shoots starting to fill in.
Did not grow well for us.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We installed a new hot tub and decided to use this around the hot tub to regrow all the grass that we lost when it was installed. We used as directed and made sure to water but we got very little growth in that area.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Tall Fescue Mix and appreciate your feedback. For cool season grasses (Bluegrass/Rye/Fescue) soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees for grass seed to germinate. Cool season grasses have the best germination rates in Spring and Fall. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried growing grass in a very shady location a few times previously with no luck, but this product did what previously seemed impossible. My backyard is mostly shade and mostly clay, so it's a tough task to grow in new areas. I had others more knowledgeable tell me I'd never grow grass in this particular location but this stuff did the trick It says it includes a ground treatment in addition to a growth fertilizer. I have many other shady areas and will definitely use this seed in the future. The picture shown is after about 3 weeks of growth. It's still coming in thicker every few days.
Really does grow in dense shade!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product really surprised me in a good way. I have a small-ish area at the side of my house that is shaded for the majority of the day, thanks to my neighbors fence and a large river birch tree. After preparing the area I seeded using the Dense Shade mix & watered regularly to keep the soil moist. After about 10 days I was amazed to see a lot of healthy looking green shoots. The grass seems to be establishing itself well and the germination rate appears high. This seed mix has definitely succeeded where others (Scotts & non-Scotts) have failed. I am very happy with this product. Remember to water frequently!

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix and appreciate your feedback. For cool season grasses (Bluegrass/Rye/Fescues) soil temperatures must be at least 55℉ for grass seed to germinate. This means that the daytime temperatures must consistently be above 65℉. For warm season grasses (Bermudagrass/Centipede/Zoysia/Bahia) soil temperatures must be between 75℉ and 90℉. Cool or fluctuating nighttime temperatures will slow germination. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit germination. Germination times vary by seed type. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have an area in my front yard. There are two huge Maples That really shade the area. They really soak in the moisture and in the drier part of the season grass tends to get thinner. I've tried many things but after using Scott's Turf Builder Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix, I can really see an improvement. I will continue to use this throughout the summer and into the dry season so I'll be able to keep my nice new grass that has been growing. This is really great stuff!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I lost my lawn totally last year from extreme drought. I used Scotts sun and shade last fall and seed for dense shade this spring. The lawn is filling in all over and looks great. I love the dark green texture of the different type of seed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have one side of my yard that i never can grow grass due to shade from multiple trees. So far i am pleased with this seed. I raked the bare spots that i had to get to the dirt layer. Seed was easy to spread and obvious how much was placed in one spot to prevent overseeding. Followed instructions and watered and so far i have a nice amount of grass growing. Time will tell how strong it will be, but so far its looking good!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I applied the grass seed with my spreader to the back yard near the woods where it is shady and also very wet. I can already see some grass starting to grow after only a week so I’m very happy with the product. Hopefully there will finally be no more bare spots in that area.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Grass Seed Evaluation My problem area of not having grass to grow was under a large tree. In the summer months that area was always a dust bowl. So when Scotts sent me a bag of Turf Builder Grass seed(Dense Shade Mix) I was eager to give it a try. My first attempt did not go well. After planting the seeds the monsoons arrived and washed all the seeds away. My second attempt seems to going well, but the summer months will be the test. Time will tell.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed Dense Shade Mix in an area that has been a problem getting grass to grow for years. It is quite shady and other grasses may start growing but die after a short time. This Dense Shade mix was my solution. I planted it right after I received it and now it is up about 2 inches and looking great. It is full and no bare spots any more. I would recommend this grass seed to those that have problem shady areas. Give it a try. It worked well for me.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great for shady areas, but not as wonderful in part shade. Careful if you have a mix. I’d recommend waiting until you have full shade areas to use it in, like where you have shade at least 6+ hours out of the day!
