Solid Debut Novel

Secondary Target is Angela Carlisle's debut novel. However, she writes like a seasoned writer. I was captivated by the first scene and had a hard time putting the book down to get anything else done. "Was love, or even friendship, worth risking the very real possibility of heart-wrenching loss?" The above quote is Corina's thoughts. It broke my heart that it was her outlook on life. She is a strong woman who had to grow up quickly after the death of her mother and brother. When tragedy struck a few years later, it sent her running. However, it was annoying that Corina was embarrassed by shows of emotion, and thinking she had to be strong in extreme circumstances. She was also quick to rush into danger without thought of the consequences. We do get scenes from the stalker's perspective. It is always interesting when this happens. While I had hints as to who it was, I wasn't surprised when it was revealed and felt like I should have known. But, I didn't. While Secondary Target is a second chance romance between Corina and Bryce, the romance part is a little lackluster. The friendship aspect was believable, but the romance lacked chemistry. Overall, I was surprised by Secondary Target. It did not read like a debut novel, the story was well executed and I look forward to Allye's story next. Thank you to Bethany House for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Time is Running Out!

Everything about Corina has turned upside down. Her dad has disappeared, life-threatening things have begun happening, and she has a murderous stalker tracking her every move. Additionally, her old boyfriend, Bryce has firmly planted himself back into her life after a five-year absence. As the stalker strikes repeatedly, Bryce's time is divided between trying to protect Corina, and attempting to figure out the stalker's identity. Despite getting lots of help from the police, the attacks continue with each one being more dangerous. Corine knows someone nearby is doing this, she can feel them watching her, but who is it? There is no safe place for her to go, the stalker seems to knows her every step, almost before she does. There is lots of tension, and twists in this tale, including vehicle-ramming, shootouts, and attempts to drug Corina. Experiencing all these things causes her to reexamine a faith crisis Corina had years earlier. The bad guy's identity is a complete surprise. Fans of suspense will enjoy this five-star story. Thank you, Bethany House, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own.

Action packed thriller

Well, I did not see that coming! Get ready for the ride of your life in this suspense filled read that is full of twists and turns. I was not prepared for that ending! Corina is starting her life over after the deaths of her mom and brother, so she thinks. Things begin happening in her life to make her question if she is going to relive a nightmare. Has her stalker returned? Does she have a target on her back? Will she live to see tomorrow? Mrs. Carlisle weaves this story in a way that you are immediately drawn in from the first pages. You cannot get enough! The book is so action packed that you are on the edge of your seat and I actually gasped for air during parts that I read. I would highly recommend this book to readers of romantic suspense. This is one of those books you read in one sitting. I would give this book a 10 if I could. I only have one problem: the next book in the series cannot come fast enough. This author has been added to my list of must read authors! I was given an ARC of this book and these are all my own opinions.

Riveting Romantic Suspense!!

Secondary Target is a suspense filled novel with lots of action and a second-chance romance. It grabbed me at the first sentence and held on until the end. And, honestly, it's one of the few books that stayed on my mind even after finishing it. Corina and Bryce are well-developed characters with interesting backgrounds. Their grief that should have been shared, wasn't. How their grief affected their relationships and their faith was intricately woven into the story. They do get an HEA. The way that the villain toyed with Corina is chilling. The plot is twisty, and the one at the end was shocking. Author Angela Carlisle has written a superb tale of love, revenge, and grief. I was amazed to find that this was a debut novel. I would definitely read more by this author and look forward to the second book in The Secrets of Kincaid series. I received a complimentary copy through NetGalley from the publisher and am sharing my opinion of this very well-written and electrifying novel.

Surprise Ending

I am so happy that Secondary Target is the first book of a new series, and I have other books to look forward to. Angela Carlisle has done an incredible job of plotting this romantic suspense with a second chance romance trope. The suspense definitely takes precedence over the romance, so if you are not a fan of romance, don't let that deter you from reading this book. I'm not often surprised by an ending to the degree I was by this book's ending. That in itself is good enough for me to recommend it so highly, but the characters and believable dialogue are additional reasons. This will be a great summer night or beach read if you are picking it up soon after release, but will be an equally good chilly night read snuggled up under a blanket with a hot beverage if you are coming across it later. I am very grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Secondary Target from Bethany House via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Great Romantic Suspense

Ms. Carlisle’s debut romantic suspense novel kicks off The Secrets of Kincaid series. The fast-paced, action-packed plot pulled me in from the beginning and kept me engaged and guessing all the way to the surprising ending. Suspense runs high in Kincaid, Kentucky, as an unknown, unstable, and seemingly unstoppable assailant’s taunting turns to murder in his quest for revenge. The characters, main and secondary, are engaging and realistic. I love how Corina and Bryce’s second chance love story develops amid all the danger and mayhem. I appreciate the meaningful faith thread woven throughout the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
