Description

About the Book

Ever since Fire Marshal Jesslyn McCormick lost her family in a fire, she's been looking: for the arsonist, for a reason, for relief from the guilt of surviving. In a twisty tale of revenge, forgiveness, and justice, Jesslyn and FBI Special Agent Nathan Carlisle team up to find the answers--if they can keep her alive long enough to ask the questions.

Book Synopsis

She's out for justice. But the arsonist she's tracking is out for retribution.

Now the fire marshal of Lake City, Jesslyn McCormick is determined to find the person who started the fire that robbed her of her family when she was just seven years old. As the twentieth anniversary of the tragedy approaches, a string of fires--including at Jesslyn's church--brings up all those old feelings and offers new evidence.

Because church fires are considered a hate crime, FBI Special Agent Nathan Carlisle is called in to work with local law enforcement. Nathan has his own past--one he'd prefer not to revisit. And focusing on helping Jesslyn track down the arsonist is a great distraction.

As both the case and the chemistry between Jesslyn and Nathan heat up, memories will come flooding in from the past to bump up against hopes for the future. And when Jesslyn comes face-to-face with her worst nightmare, she'll have to confront her fears and rely on Nathan and her community of friends in order to survive.

An Arson Investigation Heats Up...

Twenty years ago, Jesslyn McCormick’s life changed forever when her entire family died in a house fire, and as the Lake City fire marshal, she’s determined to track down the person responsible for their deaths. After a televised interview about the tragedy, fires break out at multiple places Jesslyn frequents around town, and she can’t help but wonder if they’re being set by the same person who killed her family. FBI Agent Nathan Carlisle is called in to help with the case, and as the investigation heats up, he realizes he may have to confront his own fears and traumas to save the woman he’s falling for.🔥 Serial Burn is the third book in Lynette Eason’s Lake City Heroes series, and it’s full of danger, suspense, and a slow burn romance that will have you smiling. Jesslyn and Nathan are two down to earth characters whose struggles and setbacks feel authentic, and you can’t help but root for them to succeed. I loved getting to see some characters from Lynette’s other Lake City stories, and I enjoyed seeing the dynamics of their friendships with each other (major found family vibes). This is a book that will make you want to keep turning the pages, and I can’t wait to read the series finale later this year!💚 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A big thank you to Revell Fiction for sending me a copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions above are my own.📙

Deputy State Fire Marshal Jesslyn McCormick has her hands full with a serial arsonist that doesn’t mind killing people in the fires. FBI Special Agent Nathan Carlisle is working the same case from the law enforcement angle. Both of them struggle with past pain that impacts their jobs and their lives in general. This book will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Ms. Eason has written a fast paced, edge of your seat novel that blends faith and romance into the story that keeps the reader completely engaged in the book. This is a hard to put down book. I highly recommend Serial Burn. My thanks to the publisher for an ARC of this book. I was not required to write a good review. The opinions stated here are mine.

Serial Burn is another incredible addition to the Lake City Heroes series and I was hooked from page one. Jesslyn’s desire to honor her family and the way she faces her fears is admirable. The way her character is written is so realistic and relatable, and Eason does an incredible job of incorporating little things that, as someone who’s experienced a house fire, make Jesslyn’s history more credible (not in a triggering way). The way Andrew supports Jesslyn as she investigates the fires, protecting her while respecting her wishes, are real-life husband goals and makes him one of my favorite MMCs yet. With signature plot twists and heart-pounding suspense, Serial Burn is a can’t-miss book for those who enjoy romantic suspense.

Action-Packed Suspense

Serial Burn is another action packed installment in the Lake City Heroes series. Jesslyn and Nathan team up to investigate several fires in Lake City, and in between harrowing experiences, they share their backstories and learn to trust each other. The action never stops as they pursue the arsonist, and Jess and Nathan rely on their friend network to help them in their investigation. I loved the friend circle dynamic. In each book so far, the friends are always willing to drop everything and help the friend who needs it at a moment's notice, no questions asked. And Nathan is willing to face his greatest fear in order to ensure Jess's safety. Their love story is a bright spot in the midst of the darkness of hunting for a killer. Lynette Eason delivers another great story. Can't wait for book four! I received this book from the publisher and was not required to leave a review. This opinion is my own.

Mrs. Eason does it once again in this page turner full of suspense and keeps you guessing to the very end. Can you guess who the arsonist is? I could not. Jesslyn is a fire marshal that works a job that hits close to home. She lost her own family in a fire. It looks like the arsonist is striking again and she is the one who has to solves this crime before he/she strikes again. Jesslyn has lived in fear because of what has happened in her past, but I love how the author weaves in how our God can rescue you from your past and take your fears away. Nathan has been assigned to help in these cases and he has his own hurts to deal with. These two lean on each other as they work tirelessly to find our culprit. As the pages turn, we see their relationship develop as they share their pain and hurts. The characters are so relatable and you feel like they could be your friend. You want to be there to walk beside them in their hurts or jump through the pages to rescue them from the danger. As the plot thickens and you are guessing who it may be, this author shows fine suspense writing as she shares detail after detail to slowly work in finding out who our arsonist is. This is what all suspense readers want! I would highly recommend this for lovers of romantic suspense. This book can be read as a standalone, but the characters do flow over into the other books of the series. Go pick up your copy today! You will be happy you did! Get ready to be hooked! These are all my opinions! I received this book from the publisher and was not required to leave a review.

Twenty years after Jessalyn's parents tragically die in a fire, fires are happening to places to which Jessalyn has a connection. Certain that these fires are related to her parents' deaths, Jessalyn is determined to find the arsonist and killer. But can she get them before they get her? How many others have to die before the criminals are caught? Anyone who loves high action, suspense, Christian fiction needs to grab of copy of this intense story! I received an ARC from the author but my review is my own opinion and is done of my own volition.

Heart-Pounding Romantic Suspense!

This third book of the Lake City Heroes series is another fascinating story by author Lynette Eason. An act of arson many years ago sets the stage for a tale riddled with twists, turns, and puzzling clues, as State Fire Marshal Jesslyn McCormick works to find the person responsible for the deaths of her mother and sisters. Will she succeed in finding this arsonist or will she fall victim to the new outbreak of fires that appear to be related to her? Thrilling action, compelling suspense, and heartwarming romance are Eason's trademarks and Serial Burn has them all. A mix of subtle hints and complex clues left me guessing the arsonist's identity and the slow-burn romance between Jesslyn and FBI agent Nathan Carlisle kept me turning the pages. There was also this added dimension: Jessalyn and Nathan were supported by co-workers who shared a strong bond of honor, friendship, and unshakable faith. Thank goodness a fourth book is planned because I'll love spending more time with these Lake City Heroes! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. A positive review was never required. These are my thoughts.

This is a great story of forgiveness and redemption. The characters struggle with very real issues and I related to both of them easily. It’s a fast paced story that can keep you guessing till the end. While I did read the others in the series I think the story can stand on its own and be enjoyed and understood without reading them first. I have loved all of Lynette Eason’s books but I do believe this is my new favorite. I received a copy from the publisher but was not required to leave a review. The opinions are my own.
