Fantastic romantic suspense
“You’re not that person anymore. You’ve risen above it.”
Wow. I didn’t think Lynette Eason could top her Collateral Damage (the first book in the series), but she has outdone herself with Acceptable Risk. Brimming with intense action and suspense, mind-spinning plot with shocking twists, and endearing characters, this book is another winner in the romantic suspense genre and a must read. Although it can be read as a stand alone, I think readers will get a richer experience by reading the series in order to get everyone’s background and enjoy this tight-knit circle of friends and colleagues.
Sarah, an Army investigative reporter, and Gavin, a former Army special ops, have a past from when they served together in Afghanistan. Now Gavin runs a security company stateside and is recruited by Sarah’s father to protect her while Sarah is recuperating from a kidnapping. Sarah has a dark past and an anger problem against her father which boil up when her younger brother dies. Convinced that something strange happening in the VA hospital caused his death, Sarah puts her stubbornly dogged self to find answers and brings Gavin and her brother Caden, the FBI agent, into the fray. Little does she know that what she’s digging up is bigger than any of them could possibly imagine. Gavin is the alpha male, protective hero with a tender side who is definitely swoon-worthy. The themes of forgiveness and reconciliation run throughout the story and make the characters feel real even as they’re dodging bullets and speeding vehicles.
I received a copy of the book from Revell via LibraryThing and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

Loved it!
I could not wait to get my hands on this book. The cover alone tempted me, and then seeing it was Lynette Eason had me hooked. I knew I was going to be in for a treat. Eason easily kept up her side of the bargain. From the very beginning I was biting my nails nervously awaiting what might happen next. I was taken on a jaw dropping ride and couldn’t read the pages fast enough. Sarah was the definition of tough. Smart and capable she can hold her own in a family of guys. It was fun watching her learn that while she is those things, it doesn’t hurt to let a guy be a hero here and there. The chemistry between Sarah and Gavin was undeniable, even if they tried to fight it. I really can’t blame Sarah for swooning a time or two, Gavin is a strong tattooed dose of yummy. I loved getting to know them and wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
Eason kept me on my toes the whole time. This was not one of those stories where you can guess what will happen next. She braided the perfect amount of mystery, suspense, and romance. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys those three things. It was awesome seeing a strong and capable female lead, and the male complimented her perfectly. They were both far from perfect and had to learn a few hard truths about themselves. And I enjoyed every moment I spent with them. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

What a Story!
3.5 stars
"I didn't dream her."
. . . . except that everyone around her, insists that the troubled young woman in the adjacent hospital room doesn't even exist. Military journalist Sarah Denning is adamant that Brianne is indeed a very real person, but then again Sarah is experiencing horrific nightmares and flashbacks from a recent ordeal in Afghanistan, and has been deemed unstable enough to be discharged from the army .
Following her harrowing kidnapping experience by Middle East terrorists and subsequent rescue, Sarah's recovery from two gunshot wounds has resulted in a period of mild convalescence . Certain that her life is still in danger, her father, a military general, hires former Army Ranger Gavin Black to protect Sarah, putting Gavin in the cross hairs of a woman for whom he dearly cares and a father whom Sarah clearly despises.
"Something's going on, Sarah. something . . . weird. . . . Somehow we have landed right in the middle of it."
A suspicious family tragedy deepens Sarah's apprehension, but accelerates her determination to find some answers; she needs to find Brianne and she needs to know what really happened to her brother . . .. and then there's Gavin. Is any of it an "acceptable risk"?
What a trail of tears, tragedies, and ultimate triumphs . . . . . enjoy this author's signature style . . . lots of questions, an impossibly fast pace, and lovely romantic overtures.

Fabulous
Taken hostage in the Middle East and fighting for her life and the lives of her students, Sarah is relieved to see an army ranger and his team come to their rescue. She is stunned when she realises it’s her ex-boyfriend Gavin. The action keeps rolling in Lynette Eason’s Acceptable Risk. Gavin’s mission is over but, in reconnecting with Sarah, he realises she needs him as back up. Badly injured, she’s taken to hospital and then discharged from the army on psychiatric grounds. Still reeling, Sarah’s estranged father delivers the news her younger brother has died by suicide.
Back in the States, Sarah starts to put together the pieces of her life and her family together and nothing adds up. The psychiatrist discharged her without consulting her and everyone interacting with her brother believed he was doing better, positive about life. Additionally, a woman she meets in hospital vanishes from the hospital and there are no records she exists.
Gavin is determined to keep Sarah safe and, even back home, she is still coming under attack. Soon, the two feel lost in the mystery surrounding them and confused by the conflicting information. It is a complicated web and I loved exploring it! The ending is clever and satisfying!
Lynette has written a fabulous sequel to Collateral Damage and I can’t wait for the next in this series! Each character is intellectually written, the story is interesting and fast paced and the emotions heartfelt. Christian principles are lived out despite the incredibly difficult circumstances. Forgiveness and purpose are at the centre of this one. I so enjoyed getting to understand Sarah and Gavin better.
If you like a good action suspense, this is one to read! Highly recommended, it’s a five out of five on the enJOYment scale.

MILITARY PTSD READ
“I actually should have known something was up when I opened my eyes and saw him sitting there. But I’d hoped–,” Sarah explains to Gavin in Lynette Eason’s novel, Acceptable Risk.
~ What ~
The second book in the Danger Never Sleeps series, this three-hundred-and-twenty-page paperback targets those who enjoy crime suspense with Christian undertones and light romance. Containing the slang word heck, the topics of hatred, physical and drug abuse, torture, and murder may not be appropriate for immature readers. The book ends with the first chapter of the writer’s next book in the series, acknowledgments, author’s biography, and advertisements for other Revell books.
Sarah Denning may be an excellent military journalist, including when she is rescued in the Middle East by former Army Ranger Gavin Black, but she has issues when it comes to her father, a controlling United States general. When she learns that it was her father that had her discharged from the Army, the girl’s hatred toward her dad is amplified. Little does she know the man has hired Gavin to protect her, especially after her brother unexpectedly commits suicide. As she tries to uncover why many veterans are killing themselves, she has to deal with her anger toward her father and her growing connection to Gavin.
~ Why ~
This romantic suspense keeps the action rolling with hostage situations, kidnappings, and using military training to survive. The discussions of how veterans often have to deal with stress, nightmares, and PTSD were tender yet truthful. The main character shows both her strengths and determination as well as her hatred of her father, stubbornness, and angst.
~ Why Not ~
Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may not like the prayers to God or calling on His name for protection. Others may not care for a story about those in the military who suffer from depression, PTSD, or suicidal tendencies. Some may relate to the dysfunctional family relationship between the father and daughter.
~ Wish ~
Since there are many scenes in this book, one or two seemed a bit over the top and unrealistic and could have been written differently.
~ Want ~
Whether you have read the prior book in the series or not, this stand-alone story will keep you engaged, wondering who is after the protagonist and why. It is a page-turner that focuses on love versus hate and caring versus greed.
Thanks to Revell Reads for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.
