More Suspense from Lynette Eason
Lynette Eason's previous novels have set the bar pretty high, and this book, the first in the Danger Never Sleeps series, does not disappoint.
The action begins immediately, and throughout the book, there are many heart-pounding moments. I was very curious to find out how the events and people in Afghanistan were connected to the events and people in the U.S., and it was pretty amazing to find that out.
The author built sympathy for the characters immediately through their military experience, and the camaraderie that was developed through those shared experiences was exhibited throughout the book. It was easy to root for the good guys in spite of their flaws. I especially appreciated the compassion that Brook and Asher demonstrated to army widows and their children. The bad guys were horrifically bad.
Men and women will both enjoy reading this book. There is plenty of action and suspense, and the romance is genuine, but low-key compared to the dangerous situations that occur.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, Revell, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

Great Series Beginning!
Suspected treachery. An ambush of Army troops. An explosion in a cafe. Collateral Damage begins with danger and excitement and these two elements continue throughout the book. Asher James and Brooke Adams both face near death during their Army service in Afghanistan but their individual returns to civilian life don't prove to be any safer. Brooke sets up private practice as a psychiatrist but soon becomes a target and it is former Army Sergent James who becomes involved in her protection. Asher is now a FBI agent and he and Brooke feverishly race to learn who is trying to harm her. Is there a cover-up involving incidents from their Army service? Were secrets really sold to jihadists and if so, was an innocent soldier labeled a traitor? Is it possible that there is something much more sinister that someone is hiding? Something worth killing for?
This is the first book of a new series from Lynette Eason and she definitely grabbed my attention with her depiction of the ugliness of war and its aftermaths. Collateral Damage has villians, intrigue, and unthinkable acts caused by greed but Eason also adds heroes, faith, and the Christian values that our country was built on. Reading this book increased my pulse rate and caused me to lose sleep but it was definitely worth these side effects! This is romantic suspense at its best and I truly enjoyed Collateral Damage. I'm looking forward to the next book in the Danger Never Sleeps series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell but I was under no obligation to leave a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

(no review title)
I was so excited when I saw there was a new series by Lynette Eason. I am a big fan of hers, and knew I had to get my hands on this book. Eason took me on a wild ride, and I didn’t want to get off. I had no way of guessing what would happen next, but sure had fun trying to. Being an active military therapist would be so difficult. I couldn’t imagine knowing all the things that our military has to go through like she did. Brooke gave her everything until it seemed that she had nothing left. When an explosion shakes her world she knows it’s time to go home. The only problem is, suddenly home doesn’t feel safe either. Remembering Asher from their time overseas, she is surprised to see him show up at her practice. That is only the beginning of many twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. The abuse of power and the corruption will break your heart and take your breath away. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a one of a kind story. This book touched some heavy subjects including what little value some people place on orphans. I can’t wait to see what Eason writes next, but I know it will be good. I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishers and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

A Fascinating Suspense!
3.5 stars
"They were just collateral damage in a stupid war . . . "
Following a traumatic incident in Kabul, Afghanistan, military psychiatrist Brooke Adams and Army Special Ops Sergeant First Class Asher James both return to civilian life. Unfortunately, they left behind more questions than answers, for the one person who could have answered most of them didn't survive a brazen act of terrorism. Brooke came home with a keepsake bracelet for a grief-stricken wife and Asher came home to sleepless nights. However, when their paths cross again, it appears that another battle is going to be fought on their home turf; the release of evocative photographs from a bombing scene aftermath, sets off a puzzling series of attempts on Brooke's life.
As Brooke and Asher find themselves swept up in all the things that they don't understand, they become more than grateful for the unique support they are able to give each other; if the two former soldiers could pause long enough to examine those feelings, they might even classify them as attraction. But until they discover how the events that they left behind on the battlefield are generating their current circumstances, there's no time to spare, for "danger never sleeps".
"Collateral Damage" proves to be both a fascinating and mildly complicated suspense; displaying the author's ability to position the past and present, the near and far, the known and unknown just outside the reach of her readers and characters; using every page to inch towards a climax that no one could have possibly foreseen.
I received a copy of this book from Baker Publishing through Interviews and Reviews. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.
