Was this the last thing she'd ever see? Would she be able to make things right before it was too late?
"God . . ." was all she got out before he lunged toward her.

Grappling with the aftermath of a tragic incident that altered her life, ex-police officer and bestselling mystery author Erin Delaney finds solace in the tranquility of a cabin nestled deep in the Smoky Mountains. But her restful stay is shattered when cries pierce the night, hinting at a lurking presence haunting the woods. When local police chief Adrian Nightengale seeks her help with a carefully arranged murder scene, she is thrust back into the world of crime solving. As they delve into the investigation, Erin's intuition reveals chilling truths about the killer's motives and strategically perfected methods.

Joined by the enigmatic Kaely Quinn-Hunter, a former FBI behavioral analyst, Erin not only embarks on a quest to stop the merciless serial killer, but also confronts the revived ghosts of her past. In a race against time, Erin must defeat her own demons while outmaneuvering a cunning killer or risk becoming the next victim in this deadly game of cat and mouse.

Spooky Vibes!

Still reeling from the tragic death of her partner, ex-police officer and bestselling author Erin Delaney escapes to a mountain cabin in Tennessee. But when it looks like a serial killer has come to town, police chief Adrian Nightengale asks for her help in solving the case. A storm is coming, the clock is ticking, and they have to find the killer before Erin becomes his next victim.👻 If you like spooky vibes and psycho villains, Shattered Sanctuary is the book for you! Shattered Sanctuary is the first book in Nancy Mehl’s new series, and it will have you biting your nails and sitting on the edge of your seat. This story is chock full of suspense, and yet it also has a big focus on the importance of faith. The dialogue felt a little unnatural to me, and I’m not sure I agreed with all the spiritual stuff in there. But if you like thrillers with the slightest slow burn romance thread, you should check out this book!🤍 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A big thank you to Bethany House Fiction for sending me a copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions above are my own.📕

Evil Lurking

As the book begins we meet Erin Delaney as she arrives in Sanctuary Tennessee, at a cabin in the Smokey Mountains. She is awaiting the arrival of her friend and mentor Kaely Quinn-Hunter, and hoping for some relaxation and healing! Erin is an ex-St Louis Policewomen and a best selling author, and Kaely she is a former FBI. Wow, very interesting women! Peace of the area is soon shattered, even before Kaely arrives, Erin is asked to look at a body, and soon there is a serial killer in the area. Your going to find your heart in your throat and I was holding my breath as the danger seemed to be coming to their door. Why? and Whom is the culprit? I thought I knew, but then maybe not. I did love the one fellow that comes to their door, and into their hearts. There is another book coming in this series, and with the surprises offered at the end, I want some more answers, but this one sure kept me guessing, and often wrong! I received this book through the author, and was not required to give a positive review.

I Read This In One Day!

I read this book in one day because I just had to know what happened! This is a great way to start a new series! Erin Delaney is a flawed character, battling her past experiences and blaming herself for more than she should. She wrestles with the acceptance of a God who would let bad things happen. So does the killer. The parallels drawn between the two are subtle, so don’t miss them! Nancy Mehl includes a spiritual journey and conversations that dive deeper into who God is and why hard things happen. These overt discussions are not pushed upon the characters but in answer to questions and clues, all while trying to understand the perpetrator and events that occurred in the past. Some truths are- God is the same yesterday, today and forever-Old Testament and New Testament. He is a loving God. We live in a fallen world of sin that He is not responsible for. That was not His plan. He is also judge over that sin. The same sin that Jesus paid the price for. This story is very well written. This book is suitable for mature teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the publisher through LibraryThing free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

A secluded cabin in the woods with a female ghost who haunts the property while trying to find a serial killer gives an explosive start to Nancy Mehl’s new series! She takes the reader on an edge of your seat adventure with nonstop action, suspense, and danger. The dynamic pairing of Kaely Quinn-Hunter and Erin Delaney delivers a powerful punch to the story and sets up an excitement for books to come with this pair as a team. I have long been a fan of Mehl’s, but this series is taking it to another level. Bringing back a beloved character like Kaely to pair with another strong female character like Erin brings so much more richness and depth to the story. This book was very difficult to put down and left me counting down the days for book two! It promises to be a fantastic series! If you are like me, you will find yourself reading long into the night and looking over your shoulder when you take the dog out at dark. I was given a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

Captivating Suspense

It's happened again! I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to learn the identity of a serial killer responsible for a surge of murders in Sanctuary, Tennessee. Who was killing young women and leaving them, clad in white with an angel figurine in their hands? What evil was lurking in the beautiful Smoky Mountains? Shattered Sanctuary introduces ex-police officer Erin Delaney and Police Chief Adrian Nightingale, along with the return of FBI profiler Kaely Quinn-Hunter. I loved seeing Kaely in action as she worked to find the killer, counsel Erin in her struggles with PTSD, and also keep both of them alive! Erin was a non-believer so it remained to be seen if Kaely's Christian witness would be strong enough to convince Erin that God was real. This blend of intriguing characters, thrilling suspense, and Christian faith is captivating; I marvel at Mehl's ability to show the best and worst of mankind! We are reminded that evil exists, but redemption is possible, forgiveness is freely given, and God is all-knowing and ever-present! I recommend Shattered Sanctuary to all who enjoy Christian suspense, and I look forward to more books with Erin and Adrian! I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.

I liked the serial killer aspect of the story and the setting of the woods. Erin is trying to heal from trauma in her past and Kaely invites her to the cabin for a week to relax. The local sheriff invites Erin and Kaely to help solve the murders. I really enjoyed reading about the profiling skills that are used in tracking down the killer. There is a lot of action, suspense, and a strong faith element. I can't wait till the next book in the series.

What a page-turner!!! I could not put it down. Shattered Sanctuary is a riveting who-dun-it! I highly recommend it, this is a great start to a new series, and I can't wait for the next story. Get this book if you want a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat! Erin Delaney is still completely traumatized by events that caused her to quit the St. Louis Police Department. In the aftermath of her experiences she writes a best seller and becomes friends with Kaely Quinn Hunter along the way. (I highly recommend the Kaely Quinn Profiler series by Nancy Mehl). Kaely and Erin plan a week away together to relax, and instead are instrumental in helping the local police chief Adrian Nightengale profile a serial killer that is striking this small town. At the same time, Kaely who has lived through trauma herself, hopes to help Erin confront the trauma from her past. Thank you to the author and publisher for allowing me to read an early copy of Shattered Sanctuary, all opinions are my own.

Is there hope in tragedy?

Something evil had come to Sanctuary, and it was his job to stop it. For Erin Delaney this trip to a town called Sanctuary in the Smokies was supposed to be just that - a time of reflection away from all the memories that had her feeling utterly and completely lost. She needed to leave her apartment and feel the sun on her face and the wind in her hair. Her friend/therapist Kaely Quinn-Hunter was coming to join her for a week - a time to confront memories and release the guilt Erin was feeling. Somehow, nothing seems to go to plan as these two former law enforcement are drawn into that search for what appears to be a serial killer. Could this experience finally draw Erin to the Lord, the only One that could truly give her the hope to go on or will they both be caught up in the killing spree? And early copy of The Erin Delaney Mysteries #1 was received through Baker Publishing Group, Bethany House Publishers, NetGalley and JustReads Tours. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.
