Singer 14HD854 Heavy Duty Sewing Machine

The delivery was prompt and the machine appears to be in good working order, although I haven't yet had much chance to use it. My only problem is that your warranty registration site will not accept my serger's model number and I can't find a phone number or your site to call in for help.

This serger is loud and prone to jamming unless you are careful. I figured out after several times that I had not lowered the foot before starting up. Once that error on my part was corrected it is serging like a champ. I’ve made a dress and five aprons using it with no complaints. Threading is easy if you watch you tube videos on how to thread it. I’m glad I decided to make the purchase and plan to make good use of it.

Very quick delivery. Was able to thread the machine easily by tying the thread to the existing thread the machine was shipped with. I am very happy with this serger.

The coloring coding on the machine made it very easy to thread. After reading the manual and watching a few how-to videos, I found the serger very easy to use. I tried several different types of fabrics and found this machine could handle all of them with ease. I really like that it works great with thicker fabrics as I was needing to hem some jeans. It did take some getting used to the speed of the serger but I kind of like that now. My only con about the serger is I wish it was a little quieter but it's not a deal breaker. I will definitely recommend this to family and friends. I also look forward to learning more about this machine and it's capabilities.

Pretty much easy to use but I did have trouble with the threading. I think threading is a bit for everyone though. I used the manual to help guide me and that worked out great for me. The four different thread layout is awesome too. It has been such an awesome learning experience. I definitely foresee many years of using this!

This serger will provide very very professional-looking stitches. Also you don't have to be a professional to be able to use this. Practice initially with some old fabric until you get the hang of it.

I do have experience with a regular sewing machine but this was my first time with a serger myself. I have to say the manual was pretty intimidating and large, I am so glad that Singer has instructional videos online to help first time users like myself. I haven't quite gotten the hang of it. Threading the machine is no easy task yet, but I'm confident with practice and more experience I'll be able able make the fleece blankets I want for my family this Christmas. I do like that the machine is more compact and lighter than I had assumed it would be. It's easy for me to move and I can use it almost anywhere and be comfortable.

It comes with a diagram in the machine so threading is a breeze. It comes with a lot of accessories and a bag for the scrap clippings. This serger handles heavier material, like denim, much easier than a regular sewing machine. I really like the free arm sewing feature.

That being said I was very intimidated with all the threads and the instruction manual. But once I decided to put my anxiety aside, I read through the manual which in my language only had 50 pages. I found it very informative and easy to understand. It came pre threaded so to speak meaning you can tie into the thread and keep on sewing. The threading system is also color coded which is very helpful. It has great lighting which is a plus. I also like the free arm that allows for easy repairs on things like cuffs or sleeves. I have not used this machine much but enough to know I will be happy with it. I also do and have used several Singer Sewing Machines brands in the past and really like the quality of their products. If you are thinking about a serger I do recommend giving it a try. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

This machine is easy to set up and use. Has an amazing color chart to show where the thread goes. So threading couldn't be simpler. Has a free arm and a very high powered motor that let's me zip right thru my projects. The lighting is amazing. I never have shadows on my projects. Once in a while I take my serger to a craft show so I can work during the downtime. The handle makes it so easy! No matter what kind of material I'm using, this serger can handle it with ease! Absolutely love it!

I have to admit the hardest part is threading the thread but once you get past that with the help of the manual or online help if needed you are ready to sew! It works with 2,3 or 4 threads, 6 different stitch types and great for rolled hems, blind hems and finishing raw edges. Perfect for all fabrics and won't rip or pucker. The finish was exactly what I was looking for when working with multiple types of fabrics and gives a professional finish. I can't believe I was so intimidated for so many years as this is so much simpler than I expected and I have been able to have professional results on my projects.

It was fairly easy to set up and can accommodate four threads, providing more stitch variety. And the color coded threading system made it much easier to thread than other machines I have used.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the first time I've used a serger, and the large instruction manual gave me a little stress at first. If you promise not to report me to the mythical "Man Club" I'll let you know that I actually read the manual prior to using the machine (only 51 pages of instructions per included language, so not that much to read), and most of it is devoted to threading the machine. After reading that I learned that the machine comes pre-loaded with color-coded threads so that the user can tie on the thread of the spools and threading is easy! How thoughtful of Singer. The machine also comes with a threading diagram under the looper cover. I'll mostly use this machine to repair jeans or shorts that I'll wear around the house or shop instead of having to throw them out or ruin my good clothes while working on the car. My regular sewing machine could never handle the heavier fabrics like this serger can. If I decide to use it for lighter-weight fabrics, then I might find the machine intimidating as I try to figure out the thread tension settings.
