Q: does this blue ray dvd player play regular dvds as well ?

submitted by LILLIAN - 7 years ago
  • A: Yes. I bought the Samsung one first and it only played bluray discs, but the Sony one plays both. Hope that helps.

submitted byLanceb - 7 years ago
  • A: I have never owned a bluray player that did not play DVDs. I was under the impression all bluray players play DVDs too and I have owned 2 and both of them do.

submitted bytlfen - 4 years ago
  • A: Yes it does play DVD as well as Blu Ray discs.

submitted bySheila - 7 years ago
  • A: Yes it plays non blue ray discs

submitted byChris T Johnson - 7 years ago
  • A: yes thank you very much

submitted byLILLIAN - 7 years ago
  • A: It plays both types of DVDs for us. As far as the wireless streaming interface goes, it's horrible. If you leave the device on but aren't watching it, it freezes up and you have to unplug it for 30 seconds to get it to boot up again. It's extremely slow starting up, and even though it stores the wireless network information, the system constantly acts as though it doesn't have that information and it can't connect, and you have to go through the setup process almost every time. I would not recommend this player!

Q: Is this unit wireless that is why it requires batteries?

submitted by Applejax - 1 year ago
  • A: Hi Applejax thanks for your question. The player needs to be plug into a wall outlet to operate and used an HDMI cord to connect the player to your source device such as TV. But, the player supports Wi-Fi (wireless) to wirelessly connect you your network. I hope this helps. Erin

Q: Is the only way to connect this player to a TV with a HDMI cable? The TV at my apartment is hooked to the wall and the HDMI port is nearly impossible to access. I only have access to the older style red, yellow, and white cable hook-ups.

submitted by rainbow - 6 years ago
  • A: As far as I know, the HDMI cable is the only way to hook it up. I use it primarily to stream netflix and I have never had a problem pausing the shows, as some of the other reviewers have.

submitted bydivadev - 6 years ago
  • A: Have you looked on the side of your TV? Most HD TV's (assuming that is what you have if it is on your wall) have side HDMI ports for plugging in more equipment. All of mine do have the main one in the back, but, they also have one or two on a side.

submitted bytlfen - 6 years ago
  • A: Hi, rainbow! Regarding your question about the Sony Blu-ray Disc™ Player with Wi-Fi - Black (BDPS3700): Most BluRay players will only have the HDMI outputs unfortunately. The A/V connections can't support the maximum resolution of BluRay, so they aren't present on most players. • A: Yes, it comes with a universal remote that controls the BDP and can also control your TV set.

submitted byLanceb - 7 years ago
  • A: Yes. As stated in the product details: "Includes: Remote Control, Registration Card, User Manual. Not Included: HDMI cable." You might want to look at the product details for additional information. You will have to buy an HDMI cable, but it's not necessary to spend much on that. There are definitely some overpriced cables claiming to be so much better than "the others," but they're rarely worth the extra cost.

submitted byMrWordNerd - 7 years ago

Q: Since this is a Wi-Fi Blu-ray player, does that mean it will play the Blu-rays without being wired to the TV?

submitted by sdodson - 7 years ago

    submitted bySoccer05 - 7 years ago
  • A: No, it connects with HDMI port

submitted byRMauldin - 7 years ago
  • A: Hi, sdodson! Bought this few weeks ago, mainly to enable me to buy and play DVDs from USA. It was easy to connect and has done the job perfectly, including UK DVDs also, the machine automatically detecting which Region is required and plays immediately. I haven't tried any Blu-ray discs, which apparently do need a simple button press to activate, so can't comment on that. I'm extremely happy with purchase and so glad chose this machine.

I needed a replacement DVD drive I could run through an old surround sound amp. Used for music CDs so unsure of picture quality. Needed a DAC to convert the digital audio to analogue and a digital audio cable. Sounds better through optical audio via the amp than phono analogue. A basic but capable model which only lacks one function for me. A sleep timer. Have not used the internet connection as of yet so no comments there. Good info manual but still had to search on line for solution to audio connections. Quiet player except when the disc spins up.

I don't watch many movies, but each time I had to use this, it did not work. I had to unplug and plug it back in to power up. Remote didn't work to turn it on. Now when I am able to use it, it just pauses during the show and then nothing. Have to unplug it to try and get it working. Tired of this and getting rid of it.

Freezes up

Initially it acted okay. Then it would start freezing up. We have to disconnect, reconnect, and reinitialize everything. It has frozen up in the middle of a show and when trying to navigate from the end of a show to the menu. The remote doesn't always work. We had a previous Sony that we had no problems with so this is upsetting.

very small compact design, easy connection with included HDMI cable, easy setup screen, connected to internet via WiFi quickly, played movies on Fandango no problem, played Pandora no problem, played Bluray and Dvd -non HD disc-, very well. One thing that was a problem was it hijacked my TV and I had to disconnect the HDMI cable from my TV to get control back of my TV via its own remote. But I will search for the reason, until then, its unplugged. Not a bad player, nice features

Bought this two years ago as a gift for grandpa and DVD function worked fine until suddenly it didn’t. He watched a movie one night and by the next morning the device appeared to be powered on but the tray wouldn’t open/close to allow us to add or remove a dvd. I thought it must have just been a fluke so I ordered a new one since we didn’t have a warranty. We gave it to him for Christmas but he didn’t set it up. I set up the new one this morning and appears to work fine but the Netflix and YouTube app won’t connect to the TV! I’m floored 🤦♀️ we just missed our window of return. At least he can watch dvds again, but who know for how long. Sad he won’t be able to access YouTube through the uikt in apps

After about the 3rd disc I inserted, the player stopped playing, doesn't display anything on the screen, and now the tray won't open. The disc just spins with no display on the TV. Pushing the power button on the machine doesn't work. I have to unplug the player from the wall to get the disc to stop spinning. Complete waste of money. And I see that many other people had the same issue.

Was excited to find this since I'm a teacher and would like the option to play DVDs and Blu-rays for students; I unboxed it, set it up, saw the Sony and Blu-Ray icon flash on the screen, and then a black screen. I waited, according to the instructions the menu takes some time to come up. Then I waited more. Then I waited 10 minutes and called it. Tried turning it off and on, checking the HDMI connection, and more—just wouldn't work. Maybe it was damaged during shipping or is just defective. I'm disappointed, would've liked to have gotten some use out of it.
