Book Synopsis

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

In 15 lessons, get to know the poet, writer, and philosopher Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a prominent figure of the Golden Age in Hispanic American literature and a defender of women's intellectual rights.

Sor Juana was the most important figure of the Hispanic American Baroque and a pioneer in advocating for women's access to knowledge and intellectual autonomy. In an era when women were limited to choosing between marriage or the convent, she chose the religious life to satisfy her insatiable thirst for knowledge. Her pen, sharp and incisive, was her best weapon to defend her right to study, express herself freely, and bravely respond to the critics who sought to silence her.

Considered the first published feminist of the New World, the writings of this poet, playwright, and scholar continue to resonate with impressive relevance nearly four centuries later.
