About the Author

Mary Elizabeth Sanders was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She received her education in the public schools of East Baton Rouge Parish and Washington, DC. Sanders also received a bachelor of arts in both history and government and a master of arts in American history from Louisiana State University. She was a charter member and president of the Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society, as well as the editor for three years of its publication, the Louisiana Genealogical Register, and was a member of the Louisiana Historical Records Advisory Commission from 1981 to 1985. Mary Elizabeth Sanders is involved in various national societies. She has been an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for nearly fifty years, serving at national, state, and chapter levels. She has also served on the Book Committee of the Colonial Dames of America in the state of Louisiana and is a recipient of the Jefferson Davis Medal of the United Daughters of the Federacy. Sanders' St. Mary Parish, Louisiana, Heirship series chronicles the history of St. Mary Parish, which dates back to approximately 1800.
