About the Book

Suspense melds with romance as the past meets the present in this engrossing new novel from USA Today bestselling author Coble.

Book Synopsis

Suspense, romance, and generational secrets meld when a DNA test helps Harper Taylor locate the family she's always longed for . . . but has it also put her in the crosshairs of a killer?

Harper Taylor is used to being alone--after all, she grew up in one foster home after another. Oliver Jackson finally took her under his wing when she was a runaway teenager, and now Harper pours her marine biology knowledge into Oliver's pen shell research. But she's never stopped wishing for a family of her own.

So when a DNA test reveals a half-sister living just two hours away, Harper is both hopeful and nervous. Over warm cinnamon rolls, Harper and Annabelle find striking similarities in their stories. Is it just a coincidence that both their mothers died tragically, without revealing Harper and Annabelle's father's name?

Oliver's son Ridge still sees Harper as a troubled teen even all these years later. But when Oliver is attacked, Ridge and Harper find themselves working together to uncover dangerous secrets that threaten to destroy them all. They must unravel her past before they can have any hope for the future.

Strands of Harper Taylor's childhood are resurfacing--but will the truth save her . . . or pull her under? Suspense, romance, and generational secrets meld in this engrossing new novel from USA TODAY bestselling author Colleen Coble.

Myriads of Twists and Turns!

"It was better to expect nothing than to face disappointment." Harper Taylor hasn't fully trusted others for years. Being shuffled from one foster home to another most of her life prompted her to run away, and then providence provided her with a wealthy, and very loving guardian, whose personal attention gave her the means and opportunity to become a marine biologist. Harper wanted more; she now wanted to locate members of her biological family. After the results of a DNA test provide the name of a half sister within driving distance, Harper meets Annabelle; considerably older but with a similar back story; both of their mothers had died under mysterious circumstances. Shortly after their introduction, it appears that someone has both women in the cross hairs of some sort of twisted sinister plot; lives are at stake, and Ridge Jackson, once dubious about Harper's motives to befriend his father, seems to have changed his mind about Harper. That possibility has the potential to break Harper's heart. Rather than intriguing, this book was a bit confusing with its many random "strands of truth". In the end however, the author does a nice job of making the story fit perfectly into a tragic hoarding of horrid secrets which spill over into a young woman's desire to know the truth.

Hard to beat romance and suspense story

Strands of Truth is another thrilling winner from author Colleen Coble. Having read a few other books by Coble, I was looking forward to reading this one and was not disappointed. Romance and suspense are a hard combination to beat. There is lots of action with some twists and turns in this multi-layered story where past murders are connected to the present dangers. It was hard to put the book down. Who would think that doing a DNA test could lead to danger and even death? Harper longed for a family--to be where someone loved her no matter what. Ridge doesn't quite trust Harper and yet knows she needs his help. Would they find who was targeting her before it was too late? And would they perhaps find love too? Strong characters, a fast-moving plot that kept me guessing to the end and a sweet romance all come together to make this a book readers who love romantic suspense stories will not want to miss. I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit. A favorable review was not required and opinions are my own. This review is part of a CelebrateLit blog tour.

Another fantastic suspense from Colleen Coble

I have read quite a few of Colleen Coble's books and loved many of them, but this book is my favorite so far. The author is well-known for her complex plot, heart-pounding suspense, the gasp-inducing "that's who the villain is?" moment, easy-to-read writing, and deeply layered characters. She doesn't skimp on any of these in this book for sure. If you enjoy fast-moving romantic suspense that will suck you in from page one, you will totally love this book. The book opens with a flashback and the flashbacks are peppered throughout the book to coincide with the current day investigations so that the readers are more aware of the meaning and importance behind what Harper and Ridge find. Though Harper and Ridge have been at odds since teenage years, they must pull together their resources and wits to try to figure out how the attacks on Ridge's father who is also Harper's mentor and champion, the attacks on Harper herself, and the attacks on Harper's newly found half sister Annabelle may be related. The plot is so well-crafted and well-executed that confusion with all the different information and dead ends leads slowly to understanding as strands of truth are pulled out from the muddy past and laid out to be seen without causing frustration on the reader's part because things don't seem to make sense at first. I'm not sure if this book is a stand alone or a part of a series but I would love to read more about Ridge's sister Willow and Harper's nephew Scott! I received a copy of the book from Thomas Nelson via Celebrate Lit Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

An exciting story with an unexpected twist

Strands of Truth is a story about Harper Taylor, a young woman who grew up in the foster care system after her mother died in a mysterious car accident. Harper has always longed for family connection, having never known either of her parents, and has had a DNA test done to try to find family members, maybe even her father. Her search seems to be the starting point for a series of attacks. When Oliver, her mentor, business partner, and father-figure, is involved in an attack, his son, Ridge, gets involved. Ridge has always disliked Harper, believing that she uses his father for his money, but working together to unravel this mystery shows him a different side of Harper, one that begins to change his mind about her. I enjoyed Strands of Truth. I’ve read all of Colleen Coble’s books, and I like how she ties in something as currently popular as DNA testing in this one, and not just the potential that it has to help people connect, but the potential it may have to lead to hurt (in a rather dark and twisted way). In that way, it was a unique and original story line. And as always, I appreciate that I can count on her writing to be clean and to have some focus on Christian values, particularly trust, forgiveness, and grace in this book. Her characters were easy to like and to relate to, and over all, I thought Strands of Truth was a good read. *I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Talk about twists and turns! I had absolutely no clue what would happen next, or who was trying to cause Harper harm. That didn’t stop Coble from having me guessing who could be behind all the craziness. This book was a total page turner. It was interesting watching characters who knew each other from the past get to know each other as adults. Often kids do crazy things, and it’s easy to judge people based on that, but we all have to grow up someday right? It was fun seeing a common goal draw two such seemingly different people together. Ridge grew up not knowing need, and Harper was just the opposite. When Oliver is attacked they have no choice but to join forces to find answers. The story they uncover will take your breath away. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes Mystery and Suspense. It kept me turning pages until the very end. I received a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishing and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Suspense at the Ocean

Author Colleen Coble really is a master of suspense. There were so many twists and turns in this book and so many pieces to the puzzle that didn't go together until the very end. This was a page-turner that I thoroughly enjoyed. While I was reading this book, it was like being in a different world, in lakeside Florida. There was much to learn about ocean micro-biology and life near and in the ocean. Readers will also be exposed to discussions about the current topics of DNA testing and embryo adoption. Harper and Ridge were great examples of living with integrity, but most importantly, of being willing to forgive past mistakes and move forward with relationships through reconciliation. While the author spent plenty of tim I highly recommend this book to readers of suspense, both male and female, and to those who love ocean life. I received an e-ARC of this book from the publisher, Thomas Nelson, through Celebrate Lit, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

Intriguing Christian Fiction

'She wouldn't lose hope. God saw her in this place. She had to hold on to faith.' Strands of Truth has so many different plot twists. Two half-sisters, almost twenty years apart, who find out through a DNA kit that they both had the same father. Two half-sisters who both lost their mothers and murder may have been the cause of those deaths. The same half-sisters being the targets of kidnappers and the suggestion of organ harvesting as a possible motive! Ridge Jackson has never trusted the close relationship that his dad Oliver developed with Harper Taylor as she was moved from one foster home to another as a child and teenager. Harper considers Oliver as her mentor and she deeply loves him but Ridge believes she is after his father's money. It is only through many unexplained occurences that he begins to see the true Harper. I really liked Harper and I wanted her to realize that not all people wanted to hurt her. I believe that there are still good, kind people willing to help their fellow man and I was hoping that Ridge would become that person for Harper! This is an exciting story and there are so many questions needing to be answered but through it all, even as Harper struggles with trusting people, she has faith and trust in God. In fact, there are several characters who believe and trust in God and I liked that author Colleen Coble shows them engaging in prayer and believing in its power. I also enjoyed Coble's description of pen shell farming and the process of making sea silk. I enjoyed Strands of Truth and I recommend it to anyone who likes romantic suspense and Christian fiction. I received a complimentary digital copy through Celebrate Lit and NetGalley and I was not required to leave a positive review. These are my honest thoughts.
