Book Synopsis
Loss is not easy to deal with, and everyone grieves in their own way.
After Jack experiences the death of his wife, he finds comfort in drinking and chooses his son, John, as the receiver of his hate. John, mourning his mother's death, runs away from home, leaving behind his little sister to deal with their father on her own. It isn't until a life-changing event happens that Jack realizes he's been exhibiting his own father's ways towards John and John has a conversation that changes his perspective on his father. Will father and son be able to forgive each other and break the realities they have built in their minds?
Review Quotes
"A raw tale of alcoholism and neglect that hits hard yet instills hope. A superb story!" - Terry Lander, Author of Banned and Red Light London
"A meditation on grief and trauma from one generation to the next, The Drinks Between Us is a swift read that explores what creates broken people, addiction, and the lows between the highs." - Keanu Joaquin Del Toro, Author of The Eve Of Our Generation
"A story about a father and son that teaches empathy and expertly demonstrates the fickle nature of memory and perspective. A great story for anyone interested in reading about relationships between parents and their children, fathers and sons, grief, and moving on. I immensely enjoyed the parallels in the story and the complexity of the characters." - Marlene Ridgway, Author of Where Is She?
"This short story was fantastic. My heart felt every ounce of emotion between ALL of the characters. I've read it three times already and my heart still gets invested in it all. I can relate and it has really made me stop and think in a good and positive way. The Drinks Between Us has helped me move forward with my own relationship with my father." - Megan Maher (Starred Review)
"The Drinks Between Us is a moving story of a family working through grief in different ways. It's an eye-opening look into how children view their parents in times of extreme hardships. Vince does an excellent job at conveying the heartbreaks and triumphs of life in a broken family." - Cassie Van Stone (Starred Review)
