About The Author
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. After serving in World War I, he embarked upon a distinguished academic career and was recognized as one of the finest philologists in the world. He was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, a fellow of Pembroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until his retirement in 1959. He is, however, beloved throughout the world as the creator of Middle-earth and author of such classic works as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The love the fact that I could buy my husband the whole collection of these books, but you get what you pay for. Some pages are double printed, some pages are in bold print and some pages are italics. He’s still going to read them, but he has said a few times how changing the print is hard on his eyes.

Different covers - wonderful books
I got this set and the hobbit book is a movie cover while the LOTR books are different artwork. This is a purely cosmetic issue I have but the books themselves are wonderful. The hobbit book has a plastic feeling cover while the LOTR books are matte. If you want to read these books I would very much recommend you get this set as the LOTR books are very beautiful and it’s a great price.

I was a little disappointed in this set. The book covers don't match. Only the Hobbit book has the media tie-in cover. The rest have a cheaper cover. If my daughter hadn't ripped the wrapping off it, I probably would have returned it.
