Book Synopsis

When Eli Ross left Prince Edward Island to join the NHL, he left a broken family behind. More than a decade later, he's broke and headed home to an uncertain welcome. He wants to make things right with the family he wronged, but his mom's business partner isn't making it easy. To top it off, the coaching job he's accepted turns out to be far more difficult than he anticipated.

For years, Violet Donaghy has put everything she had into making Eli's mom's ceramics shop a success, and she's not eager to forgive the man who hurt the family that's taken her in as one of their own. But when the kiln at the shop starts a fire that nearly destroys the studio, she'll need all the help she can get to save the business and their summer income.

Can these two strong-willed people come together to mend the broken pieces of the Ross family? Or will the ghosts of the past continue to haunt them?

Return to Prince Edward Island for a romantic story of family, forgiveness, and the power of love.

The Last Way Home by Liz Johnson is the second book in the Prince Edward Island Shores series. This book focuses on the oldest Ross brother, Eli. The Prodigal Son returns to the island in search of the family he's missed for eleven long years. When he clashes with the woman who helped heal his mother's broken heart, he's surprised to find someone who is also familiar with guilt, shame, and heartache. The beautiful and relaxing landscapes of Prince Edward Island are the perfect backdrop for Eli and Violet to confront the ugly and painful parts of their past together. I shed real tears over their heartache and cheered for them as they fought through their grief and regret. It was captivating to watch two very broken souls find a way to mend their scars and allow the threads of healing to knit them tightly together. These characters will work their way into your heart and not let go, even after you've finished reading. If you're looking for a soul-cleansing story of redemption, then Eli and Violet's story deserves a spot on your bookshelf! I'm looking forward to Levi's story releasing next year! I was given a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Sweet Second Chances

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. Liz Johnson always keeps me turning the pages, and I knew this book was going to be a good one. I first met the Ross family in Beyond the Tides, and could not wait to see what they were up to now. Eli was the prodigal son. He left when they needed him, in order to pursue his dreams and hasn’t looked back since. Being famous had its perks, but now that he’s headed back home, fame won’t get him in the door like it used to. Violet is a firecracker, and will do anything to protect the family she feels adopted into. There are things in her past she would rather not think about, but Eli coming around might make her see a different side of things. When the two must work together butting heads is to be expected. I loved watching every moment of it. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Contemporary Romance. I loved the way second chances were woven into the story, and seeing how much family loves each other. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishers and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

fantastic redemption story

"Being known was about the small things, small moments. It was seeing the truth before he'd even put a name on it." I've been so looking forward to Eli's redemption story but I have to say that it did not start out the way I imagined or hoped. I so wanted everyone to embrace this broken, shattered man and help lift him up but he only runs into hostility, anger, and suspicion upon his return to his hometown. Granted, the author brilliantly turns his story around to bring about that forgiveness and redemption but my heart hurt for Eli as he slowly found his footing in the path to grace. Violet is quite the spunky heroine in need of her own dose of forgiveness and grace. Oh, I loved Eli and Violet, with their great dialogue and firecracker-laden interactions. It was also nice to see some of the characters from the Red Door Inn make their cameo appearances in this book. Now my interest is piqued about Levi, the youngest brother, and his story. I can't wait for the finale to the series. I received the book from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Eli, a famous hockey player, has returned home, for the first time in over a decade. He didn't leave on good terms. Despite making thousands of dollars, he is penniless, hungry, homeless, and jobless. Only his mother, Mama Potts, is happy to see Eli, his two brothers stare daggers at him. Even Violet, who he doesn't know, and has become an honorary part of his family, acts like she hates him. Despite that, Eli stays because he has nowhere else to go. He finds his mother has started a successful pottery business. She, with Violet's help, has been making enough money during the three-month tourist season to support them. The day Eli returns, Mama Potts' business burns down ruining most of their inventory, the kiln and her store--and tourist season is very soon. As Eli tries to make a life for himself, and Violet tries to find places to sell what pottery they do have, their paths cross a lot. They are both dealing with secret, difficult situations. Together, they help the island's hockey team, and discover a place that is right out of a fairy tale. Will Eli or Violet ever share the things they are hiding with each other? Will Eli be able to keep himself and his family safe from a threatening loan shark along with his dangerous enforcer? Will either of their families ever want them back? This story stands on its own despite being part of a series. The different locations in the book are really enchanting, and while reading, you feel like you have traveled there. A lot is added to the story by some characters suggesting God could help them. I recommend this five-star book to those who enjoy finding family skeletons, family drama, or page turning stories! Revell Publishing has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, The Last Way Home, for the purpose of review.

This is a clean romance from this author which gives lots of description of the setting of Prince Edward Island. I enjoyed the book but there was a bit of sensual feelings in the book which made it not quite as Christian as I had thought it would be The characters weren't the perfect people and there is hope in finding their way through life despite past mistakes. I am not too big of a hockey fan but it was fine as it was written and the writing made hockey much more interesting than I expected. There is healing, forgiving and life's hard issues. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Publishing. All thoughts are my own.

I was so anxious to devour another Liz Johnson Prince Edward Island novel—verdant, lush home of the delightful Anne of Green Gables—with all of its small hometown feels...replete with antique, pottery, and bakery shops oozing with delicious treats, that I overlooked a very important detail in the book description! The hero, Eli Ross, played for the NHL as in National Hockey League. Way out of my comfort zone...my motto always being "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out." Definitely not a hockey fan, but Liz Johnson made it work and I found myself totally immersed in this electrifying sport! It started out a little slow for me and I found it difficult to connect with the heroine, Violet, as she was angry with Eli for something that was frankly none of her business. It wasn't long, however, before I began to enjoy their humorous quips, banter, and obvious chemistry...my eyes literally filling with tears as I learned of Violet's heartbreaking secret from the past. A poignant story of forgiveness, sacrifices, and broken lives finding redemption and healing—be sure to put 'The Last Way Home' at the top of your wishlist! "All you have to do is ask Him for help. Admit that you can’t do it on your own. When you do that, well, God moves in and starts smoothing out all those shattered and broken pieces. He’s just waiting for you to ask Him to fix them. Could it really be that easy?" (Quote from The Last Way Home) *I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to write a favorable review.*

3.5 stars "You think God is afraid of your past? Let me tell you , he is not afraid of your . . . . jagged . . . edges. . . . . He knows you even better than you know yourself. Jagged edges and all. He knows you, and he loves you anyway". The thing is . . .Eli is afraid of his past, and those jagged edges are bound to scar the ones that he has always loved(and is growing to love)the most. Can he possibly protect them from himself? Having lost everything, he dared to come back to the one place where he might still belong. Except that, the prickly, bristly potter who has burrowed her way into his family's inner sanctum seems to have made it her personal mission to make sure he remembers why he stayed away for so long in the first place. Oh, he remembers alright. Eli Ross. Practically a local legend on Prince Edward Island until his alleged fall from grace. Once a household name, famed professional hockey player, raking in plenty of money along with beautiful women on each arm. . . . well, . . .no man should be that handsome . . . not the Violet Donaghy is noticing . . . or anything. But what's the real story? Hopefully his is not as sad as hers, for it seems they both have secrets. So romantic! So inspiring! Graceful use of pottery metaphors are sprinkled through-out this definitely-not-friends to lovers story. Is there an obvious dose of happily-ever-after going on here? Most certainly Absolutely. Even Jesus, (especially Jesus!) wrote a story about such a homecoming. To know and be known. To confess and be forgiven. To long and belong . . . even if it means taking "the last way home". Enjoy every page! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I also purchased a copy. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.

I think I have a new favorite by Ms Johnson. I fell in love with The Red Door Inn and was so happy to get a snippet of it in The Last Way Home. This is book two in the Prince Edward Island Shores series but I read it as a stand-alone as I somehow missed book one. I’m so glad I did as it was captivating and left me thinking about it for days. Don’t think because a hockey star returns home it will be boring as this is a story that had me sobbing over the love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, second chances, and family ties that is shown. My emotions ran the gamut over the brokenness in Eli and Violet and the road they each traveled to restoration. I loved the characters and the way the words flowed on the page like the gentle waves on the shore. I highly recommend reading ASAP. I won a copy of this book from a newsletter giveaway. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
