Dr. Seuss' The Lorax (Blu-ray)(2012)

NOTE: The following review is based upon the quality of the movie and the quality of the product itself. There is a minor spoiler in the latter section of this review. THE MOVIE: This movie is based upon one of many of Dr. Seuss's legendary children's books called "The Lorax". From new characters to extending the story, Illumination Entertainment's take on "The Lorax" gives its viewers a vibrant, fun, and inspiring experience. It's an enjoyable film that I've watched with my family many times, and there's always something new to notice when re-watching it. In my opinion, Illumination Entertainment paid tribute to Dr. Seuss and his mission so well with this fantastic film, which is why I give it a five-of-five star rating. THE PRODUCT: In contrast to the movie and its fun extras, the disc itself is cheaply made. (Spoiler warning.) Every time the scene plays when Ted says to the Once-ler, "So it is all your fault. You destroyed everything," the movie freezes for ten seconds. After that, the screen turns black, the "Digital Studio Deluxe" logo plays, and then the disc pans to the extras screen. Upon selecting one of the extra videos to watch, the screen once again turns black, and the movie is softlocked. In order to continue watching the movie, the disc has to be ejected and placed back into the VCR. This has happened to me many times. In fact, I purchased about six copies of the DVD version of the disc, and the same exact error occurred for each. It often occurs, only not happening on occasion. This is of great concern to me, as my autistic brother gets upset whenever this happens. Though it is a more expensive alternative, I recommend getting the Blu-Ray version of "The Lorax". These discs are much more durable, and will not easily succumb to even the slightest of damage. CONCLUSION: Overall, I believe the movie and its extras are very fun and entertaining. However, it is unfortunate that the DVD itself is unreliable and cumbersome to deal with. The product should be easy to use, and free of any factory errors that might prevent viewers from watching the film.

Bright and colorful graphics and fun songs. My 23 Month old will NOT put this movie down! She loves it so much she even tries to sing along to the song "Let it Grow". Should be a classic.
