About the Book
"An uplifting novel about a heartbroken young pie maker who is granted a magical second chance to live the life she didn't choose. . . . from the bestselling author of The Enlightenment of Bees. Lolly Blanchard's life only seems to give her lemons. Ten years ago, after her mother's tragic death, she broke up with her first love and abandoned her dream of opening a restaurant in order to keep her family's struggling Seattle diner afloat and care for her younger sister and grieving father. Now, a decade later, she dutifully whips up the diner's famous lemon meringue pies each morning while still pining for all she's lost. As Lolly's thirty-third birthday approaches, her quirky great-aunt gives her a mysterious gift-three lemon drops, each of which allows her to live a single day in a life that might have been hers. What if her mom hadn't passed away? What if she had opened her own restaurant in England? What if she hadn't broken up with the only man she's ever loved? Surprising and empowering, each experience helps Lolly let go of her regrets and realize the key to transforming her life lies not in redoing her past but in having the courage to embrace her present"--Book Synopsis

In 26 days, I will be turning 33, and this book knocked the wind out of me. Lolly Blanchard has not achieved the goals she made for herself as a child because her mother unexpectedly died; She has spent her time trying to keep her family afloat by caring for her younger sister and grieving father. For her 33rd birthday, her Great Aunt gives her three magical lemons drops that have the opportunity to show three different days of life that "might have been." What would have happened if her mother didn't die or if she had opened up that restaurant? What if she didn't break up with 'the one"? Switching between timelines, this heartwarming tale tells us about second chances, learning to release past regrets and the assertion that the future can only change by the choices we make today. Rachel Linden's artistry with words left me breathless while tears rushed down my face. The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie illustrates the truth behind the sacrifice that some children are forced to make to ensure their family doesn't disintegrate; and that holding onto the future you imagined, to a life and a dream that will never come true only prevents us from having the space in our lives for anything else. Thank you, Rachel Linden; this was the book I needed to read.
