The Martian (DVD)

The book is better, but I do still love the movie! Reading Artimus now!

I saw The Martian in the theater and loved it! Bought it as a Secret Santa gift along with La La Land and a DVD player. They are for an elderly lady in a nursing home.

The Martian is one of the few films to have been originally mastered in 5K which would have made for a spectacular UHD presentation were it just scaled down to 4K, sadly the film used a 2K intermediate which means it was scaled down to less than half the original presentation, then upscaled to 4K for the UHD release. You can never truly get back what you lose and I am not sure why the production company would not have just mastered from the source using a 4K intermediate, but they did It still looks and sounds amazing and the HDR does add to it immensely, but for those with standard UHD TVs (not SUHD or HDR systems) you will likely get no advantage by buying this over what you would get by just letting your player/tv upscale it from the standard BluRay

This is an amazing movie in my opinion. It's thrilling, it's emotional, it's exciting. I knew after watching it that I had to own it! Great sci-fi flick, even for those who aren't fans of the genre.

Although I loved the film, I'm not offering a review. If you're a fan of director Ridley Scott, the book "The Martian", or hard/semi-hard science fiction (unlike science fantasy like Star Wars—not that there is anything wrong with science fantasy), you will likely enjoy the film. Although the science isn't perfect, it has a higher degree of accuracy than most films, especially major blockbusters. As far as the release: excellent 1080p transfer; no skips, dropouts, or glitching of any kind in video or audio. Enjoy.

Good movie. Have seen it twice now and i saw things I missed the first time.

Probably not for the kiddies with the language but otherwise a really neat show that was very thought provoking and interesting!

Very entertaining! I thought the ending was a bit weak, but we've watched this movie several times and enjoyed it every time.

Great special effects. You will really be on the edge of your seat. Fantastic drama and story. Not to mention handsome actor!

Really, that is what it is, although this Crusoe has advanced degrees and survives in a hostile environment. It is good enough to watch more than once, so own it! It is ridiculous that Ridley Scott did not get a Best Director nomination.

Loved the science. Matt Damon is super. Well worth the purchase. Will watch numerous times.
