About the Book

Nothing would please her family more than her securing an admirable match, but true love and loyalty are harder to come by than she imagined.

At twenty-two, Elena Bradford has never met a man who made her consider marriage. But when her father dies and leaves the family deeply in debt, Elena becomes their only hope. Her mother uses their last funds to take Elena and her younger sister to Graham Springs, Kentucky, where people find healing by drinking the mineral spring water and healthy recreation through the many daily activities--including dances almost every evening.

As her mother schemes to find Elena a wealthy husband, Elena finds herself drawn to two men her mother would never consider. Charming artist Kirby Frazier spends his days drawing and painting the guests, but his real mission is to find a wealthy bride to finance his dream to go west. Melancholy Andrew Harper has come to Graham Springs in need of healing after a broken heart.

When a beautiful young lady shows up at the Springs with no chaperone and a story that seems suspicious, nearly everyone is charmed and intrigued. But when an unexpected tragedy occurs, Elena, Kirby, and Andrew will all be faced with decisions of life, love, and loyalty.

With a Southern flare and a spark of intrigue, this stand-alone clean historical romance will charm readers with masterful artists, colorful dances, a love triangle, and endearing family relationships.

After Elena Bradford's father dies leaving them with unexpected debts, Mrs. Bradford insists Elena must find a wealthy husband to save the family. There is sixteen year old Ivy and twin younger brothers who must be supported. Mrs. Bradford pins her hopes on Elena finding a husband at Graham Springs, where wealthy people go because of the mineral springs, touted as a cure all. At twenty-two, Elena hasn't had suitors. Though she would prefer to marry for love, or better yet, remain a spinster, she reluctantly goes along with her mother's plan. So, off to Graham Springs goes Mrs. Bradford, Elena, and Ivy. There is faith, romance, adventure, a mysterious woman, and several men of interest. Elena learns there is more to life than drawing her father's roses in their home garden. The descriptions of the gardens made me feel I was there walking with Elena without being heavy and overdone. I very much enjoyed The Pursuit of Elena Bradford. I received a complimentary copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

The Husband Hunt

Twenty-five-year-old Elena is reeling. First, the sudden death of her father. Next, the discovery that her father had lost all their wealth, and put them deeply into debt. Now, her mother has announced she has scraped together the money they had left to finance a trip for her sister, her mother, and Elena to go to Graham Springs, a playground for the wealthy. Her mother's plan is that Elena will catch a rich husband at the Springs. That way, their debts would all be paid, and the rest of the family could live in comfort, instead of as paupers. Elena always knew she was the plain one, who was already considered a spinster, how can her mother think she can catch a husband? To Elena's surprise, there are three men at the Springs that seem to be interested in her. But mystery also surrounds Elena there when she befriends a beautiful young woman, who dies under strange circumstances. This is an exciting book which takes place in an amazing location that existed at the time of this story, in 1842. Former fiancés, danger, and faith all make appearances in this tale. The descriptions are so vivid you will feel you are there. I highly recommend this five-star book, fans of mystery, historic tales, and well-written stories will enjoy this. Thanks to the author for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own.

A Grand Hotel, Three Suitors, & a Mysterious Guest-

“Elena Bradford had yet to meet the man to make her consider marriage.” This first line sets the stage for this lovely story. Elena Bradford, her mom and sister, Lily go to Graham Springs to look for a husband for Elena. Many flocked to this castle-like, grand hotel resort to take of the mineral springs and make advantageous matches. The Bradfords needed money from such a marriage to pay off the late husband/father’s debts. This had to work since they had used the rest of their money for this trip. I loved the entanglements Elena got herself into. She had resigned to be a spinster yet she did, in fact, attract good men. She was so resolved to spinsterhood that she had quit seeing her own loveliness. That is insight into the beauty in all of us. This exceptional story is driven by its vast array of characters, the beautiful setting, and a mysterious historical event. As always, Ann Gabhart pens an endearing story with spiritual roots and characters you would like to have as friends. It was all just over too soon. This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

An amazing book with memorable characters!

This is an amazing book filled with suspense, intrigue, a mystery, and more! Most of the book is set in Graham Springs, a beautiful health resort. I could easily picture myself strolling through the garden and getting my portrait drawn! It reminds me of Saratoga, NY, with its healing waters. The characters are written brilliantly! Ann Gabhart always writes characters that I become invested in. It's really hard to pick a favorite, but I'd go with Elena. She's a no-nonsense kind of woman. Despite the immense pressure from her mother to marry a rich man, she refuses to settle. Real love is what she's looking for. General Dawson is my second favorite. He's lonely and hoping to find love at Graham Springs. Honorable mention to the cat, Princess Cinderella; a true hero! I really enjoyed the author's note! History amazes me all the time, especially the story of the woman who died at Graham Springs mysteriously. I was provided a complimentary copy of the book from Revell through Interviews and Reviews via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Impeccable Storytelling

As always this author does an impeccable job of drawing you into the story and making you feel like you are a part of the journey. From the beautiful cover that captures your attention to the last page I was totally engrossed. I love how the history of Graham Springs is brought to life and the healing waters of the springs as I had never heard of this one located in Kentucky. We find ourselves on a harrowing stagecoach ride where we meet several important characters that shape the story from the secrets being kept to the pretense it will grab your attention. It is nice to watch the characters grow and develop as you turn the pages to unlock the secrets and sometimes hidden desires of their hearts. I loved the wisdom of General Dawson and his matchmaking qualities. He was a character I wanted to know more. From the ballroom dances to strolling the grounds you will feel like you have taken a step back in time. I especially enjoyed the mystery that is included that added an interesting facet to the story. This story is a winner in my opinion of how faith, family, truth, and love are the ingredients for success. As the old saying goes, this story is the whole ball of wax. Make sure you read the author’s notes at the end as it contains information you don’t want to miss. I highly recommend putting this on the top of your next read pile. I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
