Contrary to what the other review says, this film was never intended to be a bright and happy children's Hayao Miyazaki film. Its audience was intended for adults and to touch the innate needs we have as humans. Past Miyazaki films have indeed been geared towards families and kids. Does that mean that all his works must have this exclusive demographic? No. The art style will be different and that's ok. If anything, it makes the tale more relateable and closer to the heart. I give this movie a 5/5 because its storyline is intricately woven in a way that tells a classic "circle-of-life" lesson." Give this film a chance and you will definitely feel and think in different ways.

We have almost all of the Studio Ghibli Movies, so I was hoping for another great film. Unfortunately, it fell short, very quickly into the movie. While this Studio may have produced Ponyo and Spirited Away, there is no way you can compare those movies to this one. The animation was not what we expected, the story line was definitely lacking. It was mostly a completely silent film, no vibrant colors, and a somewhat disappointing ending. I don't see how children would be able to understand what they were trying to convey with this movie. We watched it to the end, but I think from now on, we'll rent the movie, before buying.
