This was a phenomenal read! I really loved the storyline and all the real emotions that Suzanne managed to capture for Callie. I do admit to wanting to shake Dawn on multiple occasions, but she came through for Callie in the end and that was awesome. A definite favorite read for 2023! I received a copy of this book from the publisher and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
A touching tale!

The Secret to Happiness is the second book in the Cape Cod Creamery series. It can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend reading The Sweet Life. I like how The Secret to Happiness tied into the Three Sisters Island series. I like the author’s writing style. It made the story easy to read. The point-of-view switched between Dawn, Marnie, and Callie. I liked getting to see each woman’s perspective. Callie’s evolving relationship with Marnie and Dawn was heartwarming as well as realistic. I like how Marnie subtly shared her faith with Callie. It was the right approach for Callie. The happiness instructor’s theory is interesting. A way to retrain the brain. As Callie found happiness, so does the reader. I loved Callie’s relationship with six-year-old, Leo the Cowboy. He is a frequent visitor at the Main Street Creamery (he seems to know when a new batch of ice cream is ready for taste testing). He wormed his way into Callie’s heart (as well as the readers). Dawn and Kevin are planning their wedding. Dawn will not go on her honeymoon until she knows Marnie can make ice cream (from scratch). Plus, Dawn needs to find a venue. Marnie and Lincoln’s friendship might develop into something more. Marnie is not sure if she is ready. I enjoyed the humor scattered throughout the story. Kevin’s landlady is a doozy (I can understand why Kevin wants to move). There are ice cream quotes before each chapter and delectable sounding ice cream (and adult ice cream pops) in the story. I am looking forward to the next book in the Cape Cod Creamery series which will feature Dawn’s best friend, Brynn. The Secret to Happiness is about family, friendship, forgiveness, faith, love, ice cream, and second chances. The Secret to Happiness is a touching tale with a depressed chef, a cute cowboy, happiness sessions, surreal sunrises, appetizing popsicles, venue issues, and a secret discovered.

This is the second book in the series but can easily be read and enjoyed as a standalone. This is the story of Callie Dixon, a master chef who finds herself unexpectedly unemployed. So she flees to hide out in Cape Cod with her Aunt Marnie and cousin Dawn. Dawn and Marnie are running an ice cream shop and barely making ends meet because it’s winter and all of the tourists have disappeared. After days of watching Callie malinger in bed, Dawn decides that she needs an intervention to her depression and insists that she go to a class called “The Secret to Happiness.” The instructor is a forbidding, non-smiling and stern man names Bruno Bianco, a man who is wise beyond his years and very intuitive about what is actually happening in Callie’s life. He begins to advise her in subtle ways that make her think and when she starts reading his book about finding happiness, she ultimately discovers what her problem is and what she needs to do about it. This book was brilliantly written, with a sub-plot (Dawn’s wedding plans) and a book within a book (as Callie reads Bruno’s instruction manual and shares with the readers). I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Callie and the way she was talented and determined but not very self-confident. The way the author weaves the story around the dynamic changes in Callie and her attitude is amazing and so engaging! The characters were all well-developed and totally realistic and relatable. The messages are loss, redemption and ultimately hope for the future. This is a book not to be missed because it is entertaining as well as thought-provoking, causing me to think about what I would do if I had one goal in life and that one goal was suddenly taken away. How would I respond to that change, and would I still be able to find happiness? This is a book that held me tightly in its grasp and did not let me go until I discovered what Callie found, her own secret to happiness. “Excellent. Then it’s official. The campaign to reclaim Callie’s happiness is now underway,” Dawn determines in Suzanne Woods Fisher’s novel, The Secret to Happiness. ~ What ~ The second in the Cape Cod Creamery series, this two-hundred-ninety-four-page paperback targets those interested in a romance about a woman dealing with major changes in her life and how she learns to be happy as she accepts them. With no profanity, topics of illness and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. While the beginning has a cast of characters and a glossary of popsicle making, the ending includes eleven discussion questions, an author’s note, an excerpt from the next book series, acknowledgments, the author’s biography, and advertisements. In this current-day story based in a fictional coastal town in Massachusetts, twenty-eight-year-old Callie Dixon feels she has hit bottom when she is fired from her chef dream job. When she flees to her aunt’s creamery, she shuts down until her competitive cousin convinces her to attend a happiness class. As she slowly comes out of her protective shell, she realizes she is the one to tell her own story to find inner solace. ~ Why ~ This is a quick tale about dealing with disappointment and handling one’s past while learning to overcome life’s challenges to find happiness and contentment. I like the volatile relationship between the cousins and how it was resolved in regard to their competitiveness. Although it is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone book. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not like continuing stories of small-town living and everyone knowing each other’s business may not care for this clean Christian romance. Those who do not believe in God may pass it up, although it is not the theme of the book. Guessing the romantic outcome of the book was easy to determine about halfway through the read. Some may question the freedom the little boy was allowed as he wandered unsupervised around the town. ~ Wish ~ While a couple of the characters mentioned their relationship with God, the eternal plan of salvation was never given; that relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important and pivotal to finding true happiness. I wish all pronouns of God were capitalized for reverence. ~ Want ~ If you like a read about ice cream not being the only way to happiness but finding it in inner peace, this sweet one will keep you engaged. Thanks to Revell for this complimentary book. I am under no obligation to give a positive review.

What a blissful treat to return to the charming, seaside town of Chatham, Cape Cod—with bright red geraniums in window boxes, tourist shops, the aroma of freshly mowed lawns, blooming hydrangeas, and salty sea air. And let's not forget The Creamery with the tastiest ice cream in town! I an delighted that the main characters, Dawn and Marnie, return from 'The Sweet Life' Book 1—but this can easily be read as a standalone. Dawn's cousin, Callie comes to visit, but whatever happened to the vivacious, energetic, young woman who has always bested Dawn at everything?...their entire lives. Broken, lost, and depressed, Callie unwillingly agrees to go to a class on happiness led by gloomy Bruno Bianco. Is there a key to unlock Callie's depression or is happiness a delusional, unattainable fallacy? I wasn't thrilled by Callie's relationship with Bruno. At all. The romance fell flat for me...or should I say the lack thereof. Thankfully, there was more than one courtship going on! 😀 Fisher includes many helpful tips for the reader who is struggling with adverse circumstances, anxiety, and fears that inspired me immensely. Loving this series! *I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to write a positive review.*

This is the second book in the Cape Cod Creamery series. I would read this series in order to make it the most enjoyable. The main female character, Callie Dixon, in this book has lost her job because of a mistake she made. Even though this was a big deal to her, she has something else going on that has her down in the dumps. Her cousin, Dawn, decides to take it into her hands to help make her cousin cheer up and become her old perky self. This is a contemporary romance novel; however, the romance part seems secondary in nature to the life struggles that Callie is going through. This book really pulled at the heart strings. I felt very empathetic to the situation Callie found herself in. I wanted to jump into the book and be able to help her through her depressed mood. I would definitely recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. The opinions in this review are my own.
