About the Book
As a funerary text and guide to the afterlife, The Tibetan Book of the Dead was read aloud to the dying or recently deceased so that they could recognize the true nature of the mind and thus attain enlightenment and liberation from the suffering associated with the endless cycle of death and rebirth.Book Synopsis
This luxurious collector's edition of The Tibetan Book of the Dead is presented in a stunning gold-embossed hardcover with full-color illustrations.
This classic Buddhist text has its origins in the 'treasure texts', said to have been hidden away by Padmasambhava, the Lotus Guru, in Tibet in the 8th century AD so that they could be revealed at an appropriate later time. As a funerary text and guide to the afterlife, The Tibetan Book of the Dead was read aloud to the dying or recently deceased so that they could recognize the true nature of the mind and thus attain enlightenment and liberation from the suffering associated with the endless cycle of death and rebirth. This special collector's edition is sumptuously illustrated in full color, translated by Lama Kazi Dawa-Samdup and introduced by John Baldock.About the Author
Padmasambhava was also known as Guru Rinpoche and the Lotus Guru. He is regarded as the founder of the Nyingma tradition, the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
Lama Kazi Dawa-Samsup (1868-1922) is now best known as one of the first translators of important works of Tibetan Buddhism into the English language and a pioneer central to the transmission of Buddhism in the West. John Baldock studied art history at the École du Louvre, Paris. His encounter with sacred art led to an exploration of the world's major religious and spiritual traditions. After a period of teaching art and art history in schools in England, during which he continued his spiritual studies, he left teaching to pursue a career as a writer. His books include The Essence of Sufism, The Essence of Rumi and an anthology of Zen wisdom.Dimensions (Overall): 9.2 Inches (H) x 5.9 Inches (W) x .8 Inches (D)
