About the Book

Travel back to Regency England and the Industrial Revolution with Ladd as she weaves the tale of a woman torn between her father's stubborn hold on the past and her dreams for the fast-approaching future.

Book Synopsis

In this sweet Regency romance, two star-crossed lovers must contend with families on either side of the violent clash between progress and tradition.

Henry Stockton, heir to the Stockton fortune, returns home from three years at war seeking refuge from his haunting memories. Determined to bury the past, he embraces his grandfather's plans to modernize the family's wool mill, ignoring the grumblings from local weavers. When tragedy strikes shortly after his arrival, Henry will have to sort truth from suspicion if he is to protect his family's livelihood and legacy.

Loyalty has been at the heart of the Dearborne family for as long as Kate can remember, but a war is brewing in their small village, one that has the power to rip families asunder--including her own. As misguided actions are brought to light, she learns how deep her father's pride and bitterness run, and she begins to wonder if her loyalty is well-placed.

As unlikely adversaries, Henry and Kate must come together to find a way to create peace for their families, their village, and their souls--even if it means risking their hearts in the process.

Finding Hope and Forgiveness

Sarah Ladd never disappoints in her Regency novels that sweep us away to another era. It is never a rushed storyline but builds at a steady tempo that has you waltzing through the pages. The time is 1812 in Yorkshire, England as unrest has developed between the weavers and the progressive mill owners. Add Our heroine, Kate Dearborne and you will be engrossed in a young lady who is torn between her love of family and a budding romance with the supposed enemy. It is a beautiful story of loyalty to what is expected and following where God leads, forgiveness, grace, and love. This is not a fluffy romance, but has depth of character and will leave you in tears. I received a complimentary copy from Thomas Nelson & Zondervan Fiction Guild. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

Wow! This was quite a story! Sarah wove a beautiful tale of love, betrayal, forgiveness and so much more into "The Weaver's Daughter." This was unlike any story I have read before with the town of Amberdale locked in a bitter dispute between weavers and mill owners. I literally wasn't sure what would happen next or what the ending would be, but the story was delightful and kept me entertained and enthralled until the very end. Sarah is a can't miss author in regency Christian Fiction and this book is no exception. If you like regency stories, check this one out! I received this book from the author and wasn't required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

The Weaver's Daughter

In the small Yorkshire village of Amberdale in the early 1800's, people are divided between the weavers and the mill workers, each with their supporters. William Stockton owns the mill, plus several more, and is known for being a hard man. His grandson, Henry Stockton, returns after fighting in the war for three years, to take his place at his grandfather's side. Kate Dearborne is the daughter of a prominent weaver who hates the Stocktons. Silas Dearborne has a serious pride issue. He no longer speaks to, or even acknowledges, his son Charles, who left their farm to work at the Stockton mill because he sees the changes coming due to mechanization and accepted that change, something Silas cannot. Kate loves her stubborn father, but also loves her brother. She has been taught to hate the Stocktons, but since meeting Henry, finds herself strangely drawn to him, as he is to her. There is murder and mayhem, lies and deceit. Loyalties are tested. For a time, I wondered how all this could end well. Truth does finally surface. Once again, Sarah E. Ladd has written a Regency romantic suspense novel well worth reading, one I enjoyed very much. I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher, but this did not influence my opinion. All thoughts are my own.
