Q: Does the straw have some kind of filter/silicone gasket that requires a little more force when sucking or is the water flow unimpeded?

A: The straw does not have additional filters and will not require additional forces when sucking. There is an air hole (vent hole) at the top of the silicone mouth piece which regulates air pressure and allows easy suction.

This specific model of Thermos kids steel water bottles are great and all we use now. We were using another brand but the don't sell replacement parts which left us with a lot of unusable containers. Not the case here! They sell replacement straw packs which is wonderful! On top of which they keeps drinks cool and work great. We have barely had any leaks and it's usually from us not having the lid twisted on all the way or the straw loose. Definitely would highly recommend!

Solid Steel Cup for kids but this does leak. It shouldn’t but if placed on its side it does create a slow leak. Assuming it’s something with in the straw mechanism or the seal in the lid. Keeps drink hot or cold no issues. Seems like you’re paying for the character name more than anything
