A: Maybe 12” tops- the 23” must be from corner to edge but the depth is about half that.

The gray/silver is a textured silver. I did not like the color at all. It looked like a solid color in photos. It also is smaller than I was expecting. It is also HEAVY so it is going to be quite an ordeal to return.
