Can't wait for book 2
4.5⭐ This is a really great book and start to a series. It jumps right in and piqued my interest from the start. The world building is thorough, but expands with the knowledge of the FMC, so there is no overwhelming info dump. The magic system is elemental and easy to understand, but with a little something... extra. The FMC, Nessa, struggles with some serious self loathing stemming from extreme grief and feelings of personal responsibility. I found her easy to understand, even when I didn't agree with her. She is fierce and loyal and absolutely determined to survive. Raith, the MMC, is deeply scarred, both inside and out. He is hopelessly protective of the ones he feels responsible for and I love that he is imperfect. Now, let's talk bonded creatures! I adored the fact that this book incorporates so many types of creatures rather than focusing on only one type of being. Of course, Typhon is the best, what with being so very grand and important and all. He is sassy and I am so here for it! As for the spice... The burn is slow, but several delicious scenes make the wait worthwhile. The ending really had me going and while I did have an inkling of where it was going, it definitely went beyond any expectations I had throughout. Kinda dying for book 2 already! If you love a military academy romantasy, this one is for you!
