Author sounds like a teenager whose mom allows them to cus. Like many books today; it’s just trauma theater for trauma sake. No depth.

I’m slightly indifferent about putting a 3 or 4 star because in my opinion this book was way too long. There are parts that could have been cut down or removed and still told an amazing story. At times I thought to myself should I keep reading or stop when I lost interest in certain chapters but despite the length of the book I finished reading the whole book. I was captivated enough to keep reading and to find out how the story ended. I was invested in the characters and wanted to see what happened next for each of them. I enjoyed the overall story being told and although I am new to the dark fantasy romance genre I enjoyed reading this book and would like to read more in this genre (just not as long).

I Couldn't Finish This Book
Helena spend nearly two years in a stasis tank, yet in certain scenes she’s perfectly mobile despite needing help with movement in a previous scene. She has weak, injured wrists yet favors them then she moves off the floor. The Ferron last name is a lazy play on the Latin word for iron. The plot is rushed because social media has trained people’s brains to need the next new thing instantly. The writing is trite.

Too depressing and traumatic
DNF'D at 8% FYI: If you are like me and don't enjoy dark, depressing stories full of abuse and trauma, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK! I bought Alchemised on release day due to all the hype about it all over social media. Admittedly, I didn't do enough research beforehand otherwise I wouldn't have purchased it. I cannot give a thorough review, given that I abandoned the book so early on. Here's what I can say though: I went into the story expecting a fantasy romance with alchemy, necromancy with some gothic vibes. I was looking for more Anathema vs Hemlock & Silver and less Handmaid's Tale. Instead, I was presented with a dystopian, oppressive story about an alchemist POW. The overall tone of what I read was quite depressing, and I don't enjoy feeling depressed.
