The Ballad of Falling Dragons (Deluxe Limited Edition) - by Sarah A. Parker (Hardcover)

Ordered the deluxe edition, but was sent the standard edition. I got a replacement, but was sent the standard edition again :/ So caution when ordering this online. Maybe purchase in person if you can. I have yet to see the deluxe version in person, but looks beautiful. Read the book, loved it, 5 stars!! 3 star rating is for the online purchasing experience

I read When The Moon Hatched when it came out and have been waiting for this book for so long. It was absolutely worth the wait! This book has so much in it and I am so excited for the third book. I also really liked the sprayed edges - I think it looks really good on my shelf!

What I Loved Before I even started reading, I was impressed by the physical book itself. I purchased the deluxe edition, and it is absolutely gorgeous. The sprayed edges are stunning, and I loved the artwork throughout the book. It’s one of the most beautiful special editions on my shelf and made the reading experience feel even more immersive. Sarah A. Parker’s writing style is incredibly unique. Her prose is poetic, atmospheric, and unlike anything else in the romantasy genre. The world-building is rich, and I especially loved all the magical creatures woven throughout the story. The fantasy elements were some of my favorite parts of the book and helped bring the world to life. Kaan continues to be a standout character and remains one of the strongest parts of the series. Tropes * Dragons * Slow Burn Romance * Fate & Destiny * Found Family * Epic Fantasy * Dual POV * Emotional Trauma & Healing What Didn’t Work for Me This was one of my most anticipated reads because of all the hype surrounding it online, but unfortunately it didn’t fully live up to my expectations. While I appreciate Sarah A. Parker’s beautiful writing, I often felt like there were simply too many words. Her prose is heavily layered with metaphors, symbolism, and descriptive passages, which sometimes made the story feel overly drawn out. There were moments where I felt like I was reading pages of beautiful writing without much actually happening. It required more concentration than I typically want from a fantasy romance and occasionally felt like fluff rather than substance. I also struggled with Raeve. While she’s a complex and well-developed character, I never fully connected with her and often found her difficult to like. I understood her motivations and appreciated the depth of her character, but I wasn’t nearly as invested in her journey as I wanted to be. The pacing was another challenge. The first half of the book felt slow, and I found myself pushing through sections rather than eagerly picking it back up. Thankfully, the second half was much stronger. Once the story gained momentum, I became significantly more engaged and enjoyed the reading experience far more than I did in the beginning. Final Thoughts This is one of those books that I admired more than I enjoyed. I can absolutely understand why Sarah A. Parker has such a devoted fanbase. Her writing is beautiful, her imagination is impressive, and the world is filled with fascinating magical creatures and lore. However, the slower pacing, overly wordy prose, and my lack of connection to Raeve kept me from becoming fully invested in the story. What surprised me most is that I went into this book expecting to enjoy it more than When the Moon Hatched. Looking back, though, I actually preferred the first book. I found myself more engaged, more emotionally invested, and overall more excited to keep reading. While this wasn’t a bad book by any means, it never quite delivered the experience I was hoping for. The beautiful deluxe edition, magical creatures, and Kaan helped carry the story for me, but ultimately it fell short of the hype. Will I continue the series? Probably. I’m still curious to see where the story goes next.

The edge spray is gorgeous. The dust jacket is gorgeous. The inner artwork is gorgeous. The entire book was fantastic, can not wait for #3. It was so good!
