  • Saturate test strip with breast milk, and if the test pad changes color at two minutes, alcohol is present (at or above 13.1 mg/dL)
  • Description

Trusted by moms for over 10 years, UpSpring MilkScreen Test Strips for Alcohol in Breast Milk detect alcohol in breast milk, even at low levels, so you can feel reassured knowing your breast milk is ready for your baby.

While the overall recommendations (by AAP, World Health Organization (WHO), and others) are to avoid alcohol, a small or standard drink is considered acceptable. Breastfeeding should be avoided for at least two hours after alcohol consumption. Alcohol is metabolized and eliminated from the bloodstream and breasts over time. As a result, it is not recommended to pump and dump the milk but rather wait before the next feeding if possible. No two women metabolize alcohol at the same rate. There are many factors that affect the metabolism of alcohol, such as body weight, the type and amount of alcohol you drink, and how much and when you've last eaten.

Easy, fast, and accurate, breastfeeding moms can celebrate and have peace of mind in just two minutes. Simply saturate the MilkScreen alcohol test strips with breast milk. If the test pad changes color at two minutes, alcohol is present (at or above 13.1 mg/dL). No more guessing.

Q: I was wondering how this works? Do you check it by putting urine on it?

submitted by SIDEWAYS - 7 years ago
    • A: Milkscreen consists of a plastic strip with a reactive test pad applied to one tip. Two minutes after saturation with breast milk, the test pad will change color if alcohol is present at or above 13.1 mg/dL.

    • A: "Milkscreen for breastfeeding" for.. "BREASTFEEDING"!! why would you test your urine if you're feeding breast milk to your baby??!

submitted bynotsocommonsense - 4 years ago

Q: What should I do if it shows as negative at 2 mins but after a few more minutes turns to positive?

submitted by Alcohol mom - 2 years ago
    • A: Thank you for your question! For the most accurate results, it's important to read the Milkscreen strip right at the 2-minute mark. Any changes in color that occur after 2 minutes may not be reliable. We recommend using the result you see at 2 minutes as your guide. If you have any further concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our customer service team.
