Van der Hagen Badger Shave Brush

The quality isnt great. Hair strands fall out a lot and end up on my face after I apply shaving cream.

Smelled pretty rough for the first week even for a brush made from badger. That eventually went away but then it fell apart after less than 3 months of use. Bristles started falling out in mass and I don't even shave daily.

This product functioned well for the first 6-months. I use it about every-other-day, and just over 6-months in, the bristle portion fell out of the handle. It is now unusable.

I love this brush! it works great with cream shaving cream.

Excellent- Very bushy and just the right amount of firmness. I have had 4 of these types of brushes by carious mfgers. This one was the best. I also had another by the same company that was synthetic and it was very good also but this one is really excellent.

Great Product, very fast shipping. I have uses all of Van Der Hagen's brushes and this one is the best. It does have a smell when new, that tells me it is real hair, and it dissipates in about 5 days of use, which is about the time the brush gets broken in and starts lathering the best. On a previous brush I did have the hair come out of the handle after 5+ years of use. I have sense learned that I was not using it correctly and soaking the brush and soap in hot water prior to use. Which is wrong for several reasons 1) It will cause the hair to come out 2) It will greatly reduce the life of the soap 3) It produces inferior lather. The best way I have found is to wet the face with hot water, wet the brush with hot water then shake the water out of the brush then put the brush into the cup with soap and lather it up. If the lather runs of the face you did not shake enough water out. Doing it my old way the soap would only last 3 weeks. This way it now last 3+ months.

All (real) badger hair brushes will smell like an animal somewhat. But this was awful when it was dry, and enough to make you gag when wet. It took a month of special cleanings for it to become usable. That's about the same time that the glue failed and the handle separated from the hairs. Very poor product.

Can't make a brush to save their lives. It's my second, and last brush. Had to crazy glue it to keep it together.

This is a very nice brush, the fact that it is badger for under 20.00 makes it a steal. It will lose a few hairs for the first couple of weeks but then it is broke in. The hair is soft and holds water great, lathers easily. I highly recommend this brush for those who want quality and comfort for a cheaper price than other brands. I would buy again in a heartbeat!

There are better brushes for less money. This brush started shedding with my second shave and now sheds profusely. The brush may be 100% badger, but it's clipped, so it's not very soft. It's not the worst, but certainly not worth the price.

I am 23, and have been shaving since I was 13. While all the other guys wanted more facial hair, I was tired of having it - especially when I had sever acne problems during my teen years. I could grow a full beard in a matter of days, but facial hair has always bothered me because I have overactive skin inside of my hair follicles. This creates a kind of "dandruff" on my face when I grow out a beard. So I can say that I have shaved just about every single day for the past 10 years for a young age. If you don't use the right products, you will just strip your face of skin and irritate it. I tried many razors, shaving creams, shaving sopas, shaving accessories and what not. I always hated shaving. This brush changed the shaving experience for me. It creates a thick rich lather with the shaving soap I use. It lifts the hairs for a better shave, and though I am still trying to find the right shaving soap for my problematic skin, this tool always makes the actual hair removal so much more easier, less painful and dare i say FUN! It is a small investment to make, the badger bristles actually being of a great quality that can rival the basic "Art Of Shaving" brush I previously owned. Buy it!
