The odor was minimal, there was no need for a mask if you’re doing it outside. I look forward to using Varathane products again!

The consistency is not too runny or thick, and it spreads nicely and easily. One coat provides really nice coverage and a very light, classic wood color. The shade is versatile and buildable in the sense that one coat gives you a nice, light, natural stain, but can use multiple coats if aiming for a richer, darker stain. I was impressed with the drying time, as it did not take too long for the product to dry fully, but it also didn't start drying up immediately and make it difficult to achieve a consistent color. It's a great product, and the shade Early American is very classic, natural, and beautiful. I would highly recommend this product!

The stain is super easy to apply especially for beginners, the color is absolutely gorgeous and has really good coverage and as of now it has held up very well even after being outside with hard weather!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Varathane premium wood stain in the early American color looks great. It does need several coats to achieve a darker shade, and it goes on much darker than when it dries. Very low odor, which is nice from an oil based stain. Very good.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like it. Not quite as dark as I thought it would be but it'll work. Photo is after 2 coats. I coated, waited 5 minutes, wiped off excess... waited a bit then did a 2nd coat.. .wiped off excess. Still not quite as dark as the can but probably the type of wood I used. I'm new to this kind of stuff so it's probably user error somehow haha.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Goes on smooth & dries quickly. The color is very deep once it soaks into the wood. Did 3 coats on this table. Strong odor, so doing in a well ventilated area is recommended.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My table was a light wood and I wanted it dark, so I bought this. I sanded it down first (followed those instructions) then put the stain on. It said to wait 3 minutes, then wipe stain off. I did this, and there was virtually no color change. So I left it on overnight and never wiped any of it off and got this gorgeous dark brown table that has a glossy finish. I've since purchased polyurathane and intend to seal it, but 3 days in (so far) and it looks great! I even had some friends over for dinner and we used glasses sans coasters and the wood/varnish remained 100% in tact. LOVE the way this turned out! Also, happy I could get the HALF pint as it's all I needed for the project.
